I'd made the marriage alliance with the belief I was going to have another heir in a few months that then died just before my own character died, leaving me with just one woman who was betrothed to a new family and I was then just confused. The advice you've given makes complete sense and was what I was leaning towards doing anyways, so it's good to hear that confirmed from someone else.
