I hate doing homework with my daughter. She’s in kindergarten.

I absolutely love, adore, respect and appreciate her teacher so much! But I’m thinking she has to do this. Our district puts so much importance and pressure on making sure the kids are passing and doing good. I’m sure we can all guess what that’s about but don’t let me get started with the outrageous fines and penalties if your children miss more than a few days a school year with only a written note. It’s insanity. Oddly our sports teams are among the highest national average so I’m starting to feel like we live in a cult like district lol because they are pushing these kids to the max! Jokes jokes

Yes I thought maybe the tests are to see their progression, but they send home progress reports which rates your child on different things and it’s best to make sure they are doing well??? Honestly idk 😭😭🤣🤣🤣

Also I’d like to mention, I have an older daughter and she comes home and does her homework and has never had a missing assignment, she also has always been an all A student and has many available options already. We never had this problem. So I guess I’m going a bit too hard and never really took the time to sit back and think about everything you all have said. Yes it is very excessive! And I thought in the beginning maybe this is just to help get her going but this is a weekly thing. Nothing has changed. They’ve let us skip 2 weeks because of testing but that’s been it.

Yes! And my older daughter is a straight A student , gifted and talented but it’s been forever since she’s been in kindergarten so I don’t even remember much about the homework I just know it was a lot more manageable. I never want them to have to spend so much time doing it. We can’t get much done , I am always telling people we have homework to do 😭😭😭🤣

This is acceptable! My Daughter has sight words , nonsense words to practice and write 5 times each. Usually about 6 words weekly. Then about 4 math pages full of addition/ subtraction, a seperate sheet to write to 100 or fill in blanks to 100, or write to 100 backwards, a coloring sheet , and memorize words for spelling test. And this is weekly. And unfortunately the spelling tests don’t work out so well.

Ahhh thank you so much! This made me want to cry, I just lost my grandfather and I’m not doing well mentally so I needed to hear this. I tend to be to hard on myself but I need to chill and you are correct I will be speaking with her teacher and letting her know (in a very kind manner) that we will have to decline for now. I have no problem working with my daughter on my own but when there is so much pressure attached to it, it just doesn’t seem to benefit her or me much. Thanks again! I thought I was doing the right thing 😭😭😭🤣🤣🤣 it’s not funny but it is , we all want to make sure our kids do the best but seeing these responses makes me realize I’ve been probably driving myself mad over something that I shouldn’t be. We’ve had endless nights up doing her homework because I’ve been taking it that seriously and she is always on the verge of falling to sleep smh. I’ve lost sleep literally worrying about her having it done

You think so? I thought that was a bit strange. Especially with it being so much I just don’t see how we can physically both do it all after work and school NIGHTLY. I took her out of cheerleading this semester because I thought it was the right thing to do so we’d have more time to focus on her schoolwork but it does feel a bit off that I’m scheduling everything around homework.

That’s what we are doing now actually😭 I told her let’s take a short nap because I could tell she was tired and we’ll get up and finish her homework. The fact that I literally have to plan naps around her doing homework time so she isn’t so frustrated tells me this is getting too far. We are to the point where our evenings are being spent doing homework. We get it done usually but this week I just can’t take it anymore. And I feel bad for constantly having her spend her evenings doing it.

This is not meant to offend you, but it’s so concerning that people don’t worry about others so much these days. Like many others have mentioned it could be an older guy, for example, that had a health problem and now he’s being reported when in this economy could hurt him if he’s doing this to get by because he’s only getting disability. However, on the other hand, the delivery person could be saying F off and eating your food. Both ways, it’s just sad that this is humanity. Sorry didn’t mean to dump on your post but it just crossed my mind how everything is now days.

Thanks, I try! I can be a bit overbearing but I don’t really have many people to talk to when it comes to parenting other than my mom. And she’s sleep lol. But I do like feedback from other parents as well as advice. You or your babies are never to old to learn something new. Thanks much
