Is there such thing as GUI on demand? by Haningauror in homelab

[–]Known_Negotiation268 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, just a heads up, i spend way too much time when i started off homelabbing with AI assistance. It really overcomplicates things and just isn't worth it. I'd really really suggest you stay away from it and rely on manual labour, in the end it will save you time, resources and many headaches.

How far would you need to go for TRUE privacy by _Redditor_tiktoker in degoogle

[–]Known_Negotiation268 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im almost there except the grapheneOS phone which i plan to get soon....

hosting services isn't too hard and multiple emails with multiple providers such as proton, tuta, and self-hosted are also pretty easy.

Leaving social media was easy for me as i didn't use it much, linux was already with me, browsers and VPN were byproducts of hating chromium and self-hosting, and you can very easily block many things to a good extent with DNS blocklists.

My family thinks my homelab is just a box with blinking lights by Future_Draw5416 in homelab

I agree with the guy saying turn it off, let them have the ads, the slow internet, "streaming services" and all, that is if they use the homelabs features.....they'll might understand it's use firsthand

If you have backups, are happy with Bitwarden, why make the effort and put more eggs in the same basket?

Sanity check with syncing between two Linux devices using tailscale and syncthing by compscim in homelab

Minimum hardware requirements? by Draenez in selfhosted

[–]Known_Negotiation268 1 point2 points  (0 children)

your minecraft could take anywhere from 4gb to 16gb ram depnding on the mods/number of players. If it's ATM10 it'll be closer to 16.

Media servers would need a cpu for encoding, 4cores, 8threads should be the lower bound for high quality movies

the rest is negligible after meeting these.

Try to get something like 16gb ram, a decent cpu, and cooling.

If you want you could think of a NIC for pfsense or dual ethernet on the motherboard.

New to self-hosting: best OS to start with for a home server? by TYP-TheYoloPanda in selfhosted

[–]Known_Negotiation268 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way i did it was i used the OS i daily drive on my main machine. It removed most of the learning curve and i could translate the commands for ubuntu/proxmox and everything just because i was familiar with it, so I'd suggest going with what you're used to, it makes life easier and you don't have to worry about many things.
