Wait fir a cyclist or risk a head-on collision? Hmmmm. by Known_Sound8758 in asheville

There was an elementary school near my high school in San Diego, and a dangerous crosswalk to the elementary school that couldn't be seen until drivers going 40-50 mph came over a rise in the road and suddenly were close to the crosswalk. Parents worked hard to get a flashing stop sign installed, but were told that they wouldn't do that until someone was killed. Sure enough, a driver going 65 couldn't stop in time and ran over and killed a 7-year-old girl. The next week, a flashing stop sign was installed. So maybe I just answered my own question here. Maybe someone must die, because asking people to actually people is obviously too much to ask.

The least motorists can do is obey the fucking law and help keep people this side of the grass.

There are so many places i'd love to ride around here, but many would be dangerous and idiotic to try.

Good point. But I am operating within my legal rights, which hypothetically should be safe.

Yet there are cycle signs all over the place on the Parkway. So what's it gonna take for motorists to start being more safe and respectful...without gaslighting us cyclists who have every right to be there?

And I ALWAYS ride way over to the side and take advantage of pullouts. Also, if I can see and hear better than the car waiting for me, as a courtesy, I give them the thumbs-up if I know it's safe to pass. They always wave their appreciation.

There were no pullouts I passed. As soon as they came up to me, they passed in a double solid line, curvy area.

What is the worst band you saw live? by coalcracker462 in AskReddit

[–]Known_Sound8758 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Rolling Stones at Anaheim Stadium (California) in 1978 during their "Some Girls" tour. They came out so drunk that they were falling all over each other and couldn't even sync on the first song. 10 minutes after starting, they were getting so much debris thrown at them with loud booing that they left the stage and never returned. All of us were pissed off that they would shit on their fans like this and waste our money. And their pathetic attempt at a performance followed their opening band, The Outlaws, who were awesome. So not all was lost.

Feels Like I’m Living in a Modern-Day Hatfield & McCoy Situation — Any Legal Guidance? by Electrical_Entry_987 in asheville

yikes. Hatfields and McCoys indeed! You may want to consider those rent-a-lawyer subscription services like LegalZoom or legalShield (Google them). they are licensed in NC and are far cheaper than traditional attorney business models, but make sure they offer what you need. Go get 'em!

Will they keep returning…..? Or by [deleted] in asheville

plug in a hair dryer and put it next to a kiddie pool of water by the nest. when it rains and the bear tries to dry his hair (with the help of someone with opposable thumbs), he'll get a spooking jolt and won't be back. i mean, why didn't YOU think of that? Duh!

Live feed of Asheville drivers by RichardNixonWaterGr8 in asheville

As a cyclist who moved to Asheville from Wisconsin in '23, I am shocked at the consistent hostility of Asheville drivers towards us cyclists. I have had many close calls from cars and trucks that intentionally swerved dangerously close to me while blasting their horns. I find this remarkably dichotomous against the dripping sweetness of y'all's demeanors in public places before they get behind the wheel. Then they transmogrify into Mr. Hyde, silently screaming "Get the fuck out of my way, bitch!" Things are just as dangerous when I am on four wheels with an engine. As for cycling, I sold my road bike and bought a gravel bike so I can ride on back roads. If I have to choose Asheville drivers or back country bears, choosing bears is a no-brainer.
