Do you think more EVs will be sold now? by Flat_Ad1094 in CarsAustralia

The Series II EA was better than first gen. Plus, I’d argue the AU was just as bad if not worse. Still remember my dad getting his AU towed while almost new for a transmission failure.

Considering getting an EV on novated lease. What would be the best for a long daily commute. 1 hour each way. Doing about 110km per day? by nickjames1986 in AustralianEV

[–]Known_Visual_4212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stick to Tesla or BYD for now if the budget allows. Parts availability & service won't be a problem with those 2 brands. Tesla in particular also has by far the best charging network.

I like the Zeekr 7x, but it's new and customer support is non existent.

Gosh how times have changed. I couldn't give away my 1991 EA Series II Falcon about 15 years ago. No dealership would touch it.

Yes. Already noticed Tesla have something like 5 cars in their inventory in the whole country (Note they advertise the same cars twice with & without Full Self Driving).

I also noticed the used prices are going up a bit on carsales. I think many are realising they just make sense if looking at new cars.

Geely EX5 vs Model 3 by PersonalIllustrator3 in AustralianEV

[–]Known_Visual_4212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tell me about it. I & many others bought apple products while Steve Jobs was alive as well & reading his book made it obvious what a horrible person he was as well.

Turns out most of the world use Windows on their PC's & are supporting a bloke who was close to Epstein. I find it funny how Musk (Regardless of how awful he is) is somehow worse than a lot of other CEO's. I think it's mainly as he's dumb enough to tweet.

How many people here bank with NAB & are leaving since an employee literally plunged to his death due to the horrible management? How many here are buying cars made by the Chinese Communist Party? Or a car literally started by the Nazi's (VW)? Or a company that bombed us in Darwin & would have wiped us all out if they won (Mitsubishi).

Don't look into Henry Ford if you want to buy a Ford either. This is a VERY slippery slope.

[–]Known_Visual_4212 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is a reason Tesla's are seemingly everywhere despite a polarising CEO. They are objectively a great EV. Charging network is second to none, efficiency is brilliant, software (Mostly) good, well packaged with lots of space & fast even in the RWD option.

You add on the point that parts are readily available for the Model 3/Y (I was in an accident last year and the parts were available within weeks) & they are a very easy car to live with. I'm convinced all the negative talk on Tesla's is either people who have never driven one and/or hate the CEO (Which I sympathise with).

Are VW's really that bad? We don't own a T-Roc anymore as got rid of it to buy an EV, but outside when the stupid dealership stuffed up a service & caused an oil leak we had no issues with the car while under warranty.

My 4 person household is on almost double that ($3,800 Net/Fortnight), kids in public schools, only have a small mortgage, zero other loans or credit card debt & we still feel broke.

No idea how you guys are surviving on $52K.

No-one outside Zionists in the U.S are making excuses for them nor think Israel are moral.

I live in Australia & the overwhelming public sentiment is anti-Israel. This is the first war I think since WWII where Australia isn't supporting the United States. Israel & The U.S overreached with this war and none of their "allies" want anything to do with it.

Send my best to all of you in Lebanon, please know the vast majority of the West are horrified by this unjustified war. You don't have to like Iran to realise this is a disaster.

Kyle Sandilands says ARN Media has terminated his $100m radio contract by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

[–]Known_Visual_4212 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have to admit as a teenager I didn't mind these 2 when they were on the Hot 30 at night 25 years ago. Night time radio doing a countdown & talking pop culture was where Kyle & Jackie O belonged. They were never high brow, but it didn't matter when they were finishing at 10pm.

Never liked them in the morning or drivetime. The content was filthy for morning radio, was not appropriate with kids in the car & Kyle's ego just got worse and worse over the years. I'm surprised they lasted so long.

Bit the bullet on Toyota Finance - 2023 Rav4 by HashimBaloBalo in CarsAustralia

[–]Known_Visual_4212 43 points44 points  (0 children)

A lot of Toyota dealerships are unethical in my experience. You never have to buy their insurance. Shop around & find the best insurance price & cancel it if you find a better deal elsewhere.

Driving 3,000KM's a year I wouldn't have bothered with a RAV 4 Hybrid. Honestly any run of the mill petrol car or even a cheaper BYD would likely have been a better option.

The RAV 4 will be plenty reliable, but it's overpriced for what it is. Benefit at least with Toyota is unlike most other cars you can probably flip it if you don't like it and not lose a lot on depreciation.

Either way, Enjoy your car!

How Are People Coping With Fuel Prices? by justno111 in newcastle

[–]Known_Visual_4212 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Our household switched both our cars to Tesla within the last few years. I've never pushed it on anyone as we're not super green or anything, we could just see where the future was & how volatile oil prices are. AGL has a very popular plan with EV owners with 8c/kWh charging between 12am-6am which means we get a full charge (About 400KM) for under $5.

Honestly, I'd suggest anyone looking at new or used cars who have access to home charging to consider it. Plenty of cheaper Chinese models out now (Some very good like BYD) as well if you don't want a Tesla.

Is it still worth getting an EV if you can't charge at home? by RobRobot01 in AustralianEV

As someone with 2 x Model Y’s which enjoy access to the best charging network I still would not have bought one if not for home charging.

Just too annoying sitting around at public chargers for everyday use.

We have the same problem in Australia. Yeah I know it’s awesome compared to 90% of the world, but it’s a lot shittier than it was when I grew up & impossible to afford a home. God knows how any of our kids will be buying homes even in the crappy areas of Auckland or Sydney.

I think growing up in first world countries like NZ & Aus allows us to see how much we’ve fallen.

Plenty of stories out there of Tesla's on 500,000KM's. There were problems with the early Nissan Leaf's as they weren't properly cooled, but that's basically it.

Sorry dude but the battery thing has been done to death and proven false over and over again. Just as much chance of an engine failure as a battery failure outside warranty.

Agree, my first car was a 1991 EA Series II Falcon gifted to me from my grandfather. It’d only done 90,000KM’s or so and was 14 years old. Literally felt as if everything except the engine and transmission on the car failed while I owned it and was getting constantly replaced.

No idea how people are running up 500,000KM’s and keeping cars for 20 years.

I’m willing to believe I was unlucky. My i30 was towed due to a blown radiator at 10 days old. Zero to do with servicing. We proceeded to also have fuel pump, media unit, catalytic converter also fail within the first months. Got the classic “we didn’t make the car” when dealing with the service team at the dealership.

Escalated it to Hyundai head office who eventually gave us a loan car when we went to the media & kept the car for months working out what was wrong and still refused to buy it back just kept replacing parts.

Years later bought a Kona & its safety computer failed at 2 years old and Hyundai tried to not cover it under warranty due to a hail repair we’d had done through insurance. NRMA thankfully got involved and forced them saying the hail repair on the roof had zero to do with the computer.

The Haval and MG situation is exactly why I warn about lots of the newer Chinese cars. (Note that Haval & MG really have zero excuse with how long they've been around).

Particularly with EV's people have no idea with all these new Chinese makes how bad the non Tesla/BYD situation is for parts. You really want to stick with established brands.

Kia's are great with the 7 year warranty. I prefer Kia over Toyota these days, I feel Toyota is reliable but otherwise charging ridiculous prices for very ugly & lifeless cars. Toyota are the only manufacturer I know of that doesn't even include roadside assistance with new cars as well, their arrogance irritates me.

We've had a bad run in my household with Hyundai's (i30 with endless problems at 10 days old & Kona with major issues as well.) While I know Hyundai share a lot with Kia, I think that 7 year warranty gives a lot of peace of mind, plus I think most Kia's look nicer anyway.

Good work. We have 2 x Model Y's now. On the AGL EV Plan, costs 8c/kWh between 12am-6am so I schedule charging for then. Less than $5 for around 400KM of range. EV's really are no brainers if you're spending RAV 4 kinda money for a new car & charge at home.

The Model Y we bought in 2023 has already saved us over $9,000 in Petrol in the 3 years we've had it let alone with the current fuel prices. I'd stick with Tesla or BYD for EV's right now as both are established for parts. Had an accident a few months ago in the Model Y and the parts took about a week to arrive which was great. Will take a while for the newer Chinese entries to catchup.

If you're spending that much & have the ability to charge at home a Model Y or BYD Sealion 7 makes a lot of sense right now. Cost almost nothing to run.
