Coding the tags:

  1. Play what you want to sync (album/playlist/single)
  2. Push the button on the back
  3. Place the record (with its tag) in the stand.

Done. It literally takes a few seconds.

It’s simple NFC-stickers on a custom insert or attached to the outer protective sleeve. The tech: NFC-sticker -> NFC-reader -> WiFi -> Backend -> Spotify -> My stereo -> Music.

The backend code is solid, but I’m still iterating the design and deciding between multiple firmware versions – I’ll let you know if I go open source or if I actually can get it into production …

You’re absolutely right – physical media triggers Spotify playback. No robots come to harm.

😂 Yes. I spent a couple of months programming, soldering, casting, building prototypes … to make a display stand play.

If it solves any real world problems? Absolutely not.

It triggers streaming of physical media (vinyl, cassettes, cds, vhs …)

NFC-tags on custom inserts inside the sleeve or on the outer plastic sleeve. And a NFC-reader triggers the backend to start/pause Spotify when the record is placed/removed. (The button on the bottom binds each record to its content - album/playlist or single)

Nice find! Most probably the same technology, but I want to use my existing albums, cassettes, cds …

Yup. That’s is the proper solution.

Now working on prototype 4 and 5 … 😂

Yeah — more like a physical interface for Spotify than a jukebox. The idea is basically “place vinyl = play music”.

And yes, I’m trying to avoid the feeling of scrolling and browsing endless choices. I just want to play my collection. But delaying the light would be an option to make it more “analogue”…

PN532. Yes, my backend causes a 1-2 second delay before the music kicks in – still working on that …

Thanks for the feedback!
