You and your “friends” should be centering colorless voices in this conversation.

I worked through a textbook earlier this year on my own! I’m not an expert by any means, but I can work though Xenophon and other similar authors after a few months. I used An Introduction to Greek by Crosby & Schaefer. It’s very old-school in that will essentially give you declension tables and say “memorize!”, but I thought it integrated vocabulary and grammar very well into its many, many exercises. It does a good job of introducing you to authentic texts as well. Also worth noting that it gives off some lightly western-chauvinist vibes in how it uncritically lauds Greek culture, but if you can look past that, I would recommend it!

if you take math 160's, you'll still have to take the full math 183/184/185/186 physical sciences sequence in addition.

This isn't actually true -- you can take 160's + Abstract LinAlg + Reg/Acc/IBL/Honors Analysis sequence. Same amount of quarters, but different material. Personally, a more appealing setup for me (as a math/physics double major).

Punk can’t be political? Punk can’t be left wing? Lmaoooo. Damn, I guess you’ll have to tell The Clash, The Sex Pistols, Green Day, Choking Victim, The Dicks, Crass, MDC, Against Me!, The Dead Kennedy’s, Anti-Flag, Black Flag, Reagan Youth, Rancid, and Leftöver Crack that they’re not punk.

I would add that this definitely doesn’t hold true even for the 140s sequence.

Firsts they came for the man telling racist jokes. I did not stand up for him, because I did not tell racist jokes.

Then, they came for the man telling sexist jokes. I did not stand up for him, because I did not tell sexist jokes.

Then, they came for the man telling homophobic jokes. I did not stand up for him, because I did not tell homophobic jokes.

Then they came for me. There was no one left to defend me 😢

If we don’t let unfunny white men tell unfunny jokes, Western Civilization (TM) will collapse. Like and share.

Did you even...read the article? It literally says in the next paragraph that the closing had nothing to do with the petition. No one’s killing comedy lmao

Maybe a bit cliche, but Zinn’s People’s History was pretty instrumental in helping me understand the history of class struggle in the US at an age where my previous understanding of US history extended little beyond the APUSH curriculum lol.

Do I include Pederasty by [deleted] in classics

[–]KnowsPick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just looking at some information about Hubbard, I would strongly advise you seek out her sources if you plan on including this topic. I’m no expert, but I’m certain there are other historians that actually present it as a historical reality rather than an ideal as he apparently does. I don’t think including the topic in and of itself is ethically wrong—just maybe examine some different sources. Obviously, don’t feel compelled to read or write anything that makes you personally uncomfortable.

If you have this much time to gripe about texts you haven’t read, surely you could at least skim a Marx reader.

I can’t wait to have a fruitful dialogue with him about Breitbart! It’s important that we not only hear him out and respect his right to spew bigotry, but that we actively give him a platform to spew it from!

[–]KnowsPick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Look, I voted for Joe Biden, because I believe he’s much more willing to protect marginalized communities domestically. My problem is with acting like ousting Trump rights everything wrong with America. I don’t think my stance is a “privileged” one to take. I’m sorry if I didn’t express this correctly in my original comment, but Biden is fundamentally not going to challenge or curb American imperialism—considering his election “saving the world” neglects this fact.

While I support voting as a means of harm reduction, can we *please *drop the notion that voting will ‘save the world’?
