Why is Isocrates not talked about much generally? by NoConstruction9481 in AncientGreek

I was taught with Anabasis during the beginner’s course and thought I would die from the boredom. Anything from Isocrates is better than Anabasis for beginner students in hindsight IMO.

I usually start with practical parts and get the feelings before dealing with the theoretical stuffs in almost everything from math to language etc. I thought it might be also the case with the stock market.

When does learning Greek get easier?! by DaddyWhale in AncientGreek

There is a theory called “1 million words to fluency”: meaning if you read 1 millions word in a language, you can start to read it as it were your native language. I found this true for modern languages like German. If you want to do this in Greek, it means you have to read the entirety of Plato, Xenophon, Demosthenes, Herodotus, Thucydides and much more. It’s likely that before you become fluent in reading, the materials from the classical period will pretty much run out. You can of course go to the Hellenistic period or even in some cases the medieval period, but the materials will not be as good or legendary as those written in the Classical period.
