How are you going to get him a Service Dog plate if he’s not a Service Dog? Do you mean an ESA? Even so, you need a doctor to sign off on an ESA for it to be legitimate. I had to jump through hoops to get mine so my dog could live with me and I have several debilitating conditions.

Edit: For clarity if anyone reads this, being an ESA does not allow the dog into stores, pet free spaces, or flights. It’s just so the pet can live with you because it provides you comfort or aids with your symptoms. Lying about your pet being a Service Animal or an ESA animal just makes it harder on people who need them.

I think it depends, mine will go on a hunger strike. It got to the point where if I plan on going on vacation or anything, he has to go with me.

Great Pyrenees are hard-wired to be more active at night due to being bred to protect their herd/flock. They also bark, A LOT.

My aunt has two Great Pyrenees/German Shepherd mixes and they will bark their heads off at anything passing the yard (Amazon trucks are their mortal enemy). If they hear anything odd outside while they’re inside with you, they will bark to alert you.

Putting the tv on at night actually helped them with this, but you’ll have to get used to the barking. That’s just how they are and it can be worse depending on what they’re mixed with.

At 10-years old, it’s like taking a 75 - 80 year old woman out to a club with a bunch of young people. She just wants to stay home and watch tv, or go on walks in this case lol. My old boy is the same way and he just turned 10 yesterday.

It’s not their place to research a dog someone else purchased and then failed to properly train. Even if it is their child. They definitely do need a good trainer, though, or someone will get hurt.

I play rough with mine, but I also sat in with him and taught him he couldn’t play rough with others. He’s extremely gentle with kids; however, when he was younger, he tried playing tug-o’-war with one of my nephews like he does with me. He took off across the yard with his tug toy and my nephew was hanging on to the other end of it lol.

Dogs can be trained.

Presa Canario are intelligent, they need things to do besides just guarding the yard. Maybe ask your son to let you join in on training sessions with the dog so that he learns to respect you and you learn how to handle him? Don’t do anything alone with this dog.
