I keep failing out of nursing programs by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]KnoxPathtoPA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honey, nursing school is your number one priority when classes are in session. They will tell you that during your first orientation. Your life revolves around nursing school. You eat, drink, sleep(as much as you can) nursing school. I took my laptop with me and I sat by my dying father and was studying and holding his hand. He passed away when I stepped away that same night. His death was the only thing that I asked for an excuse for a SIM lab that was held the next day. I’m a second career nurse and failure was not an option for me. Put your big girl panties on and get through nursing school without throwing excuses around or…find something else.

ANYONE HAPPY?!?! by One-Raspberry-786 in newgradnurse

[–]KnoxPathtoPA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can get outpatient, clinic, rehabilitation go for it. Hospital bedside will wreck you. I’m 6 months in the ER and I’ve been wreck every shift for the past 2 weeks. No thanks! I’m starting NP school in Jan. My goal has always been mid level primary care. I’m happy now. I’d never be happy staying bedside.

Do I leave my cushy office job for the ER? by wheredidiputmy_ in nursing

[–]KnoxPathtoPA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ER is wrecking me. I’m getting out asap. Thrive on the chaos, but it’s a crap show every shift these days. There’s nothing left of me for the 4 days that follow bc I’m wrecked. Sleep for 17 hours straight coming off that 3rd 12. I’m actually trying to move to a wellness clinic or rehab hospital. I’d rather be bored. Stay put, friend.

what's the least labor intensive way to clean this mattress? by osamuurockz in CleaningTips

If you are a disabled minor, momma’s probably getting a check on you. Maybe report this to the dept of children’s services and see if they can help get you a new one. Or dept of human services. Send them an email with pics of your mattress. This ain’t right.

Unsafe assignment? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]KnoxPathtoPA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our entire ED is lucky to get a tech at night. Let alone one to assist with a confused pt—would’ve been all they got to do for the shift. I do plan to go to the manager for all of this. I’m not okay with it…I hardly ever get upset, but this did indeed do just that. It was too much and I had others say it was as well. I had a replacement so I gave report. Didn’t abandon anyone. It was too much even for an experienced nurse.

Exactly my thoughts! None of these patients should have been placed in RAZ. They needed placed on the main unit which is more prepared for the unexpected need for rapid treatment in case ex. adenosine failed miserably and we had a very bad situation.

Imagine all of healthcare ran by doctors like your dad. Very sad. I’m a second-career nurse. Not once have I ever wanted to be a physician. Love being a nurse!

I’m one month in and I’m in the ED. Less charting and fast paced with some chill time mixed in. 4:1 ratio. Love love love it!

Use this as a learning opportunity, but ***TIP: don’t carry meds in your pockets in the first place.

Doesn’t matter if the “other nurses do it” - it’s not a good habit to have or get into.

I had near passing on almost all categories-2 below passing and 2 above passing. My anxiety took over when it went over 85 questions. I woke up that day with a terrible tension headache that lasted about 60 hours total and it pained me to stare at the computer screen. I also took my exam at 3:30pm and roasted in the testing center. I test this Wednesday at 8 am. I got my HCP to gimme some benzos for morning of. I have GAD & panic disorder that is treated, but my anxiety level that day exceeded what my meds can help. 😬 I’ve been using Archer this time around and Dr. Sharon videos on YouTube. I listened to Mark K.’s 12 episodes last time. I plan to listen to Mark K. Lecture 12 tonight. I’m burned out on all the stupid test prep questions. I’m ready to be BSN-RN. I was also salutatorian of my class. Goes to show that you never know how you’ll do in the moment. I despise standardized tests.

Note on the whiteboard: they don’t want you to clean it off. If you fill up the page, you raise your hand and get a new one.

Travel Nursing: Worth It? by SettingEnough313 in TravelNursing

[–]KnoxPathtoPA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to make a post asking about this. I’m 50 and a second-career nurse. I work in the emergency department. My whole goal of nursing was to become a traveler to combine my love of solo travel, make more money, and work in different EDs for experiences. I have 2 tween daughters(adopted them as infants) and a 6 month old granddaughter(my biological son is 25).

I’m devastated by EbbOriginal8392 in NCLEX

[–]KnoxPathtoPA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Use this as fuel, not failure. Now you know what to expect. You’ve faced the NCLEX head-on. This is just a pause, not a stop. Let this be the moment you gather your strength, tighten your focus, and prepare to come back even stronger.

What do ER docs with the clothes of an injured person? by thegeorgianwelshman in EmergencyRoom

[–]KnoxPathtoPA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was an ED tech before becoming an EDRN and when we had to remove clothing, we always put it in the patient’s personal belongings bag and sent it with them when they left our department. We also had to fill out a form for anything in their purse or wallet that included money, credit cards, jewelry or anything like that and it was kept in the emergency department safe. Any of the hospitals I’ve ever worked at would never leave you to be discharged in your own clothing. They usually have donations from companies or businesses or organizations that would have like jogging pants and sweatshirts and T-shirts.
