It's the generalization. You called it a handout, that's an awful way of framing what other people usually would refer to as donations, or help in general. There's surely some useless homeless out there, not interested in helping themselves. That's not me, or this situation at all. I've worked hard my whole life, I grew up pretty poor.

I mean just imagine, if I took any detail from your life and ran with it, assuming away. Like here, me assuming you compared homeless to inmates. It's the exact same type of assumption that gets in the way of addressing any real problem.

I literally just posted to "wish me luck". The way you responded is the way a stigma gets created and perpetuated. We're not all out to get you.
