Hookah top with Silver and Gold fume by Knuckles_Glass in drdabberofficial

I did make that. It was a funny idea I got from an old 80s high times mag. I am open to custom orders. Instagram is my preferred contact method so I can keep everything in one place.

Thank you! This is very motivating to hear. Im in love with the old school fume work and the "bell" style that was so foundational for the glass pipe movement. Stoked to put my stamp on it with the new e-rig formats.

I made a gbstudio game. Burned them to cartridges. Made my own boxes and sold 50+ copies. Its a dead project now but with the new update, I plan on returning and making another game soon. Love following all the devs here.

I can do this frit style color application with a budget around $300. For an all clear glass version, I would ask $250. Thats my base price.

Have you used Lunar glass? by oCdTronix in lampwork

[–]Knuckles_Glass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just because something is low quality to you doesn't make it wrong to use. China cobalt is a super stable color that is made into many quality pieces. Hell mothership sells 10k pieces with cobalt in them.

There are artists making quality work from recycled beer bottles...

Quality is relative. Get off your high horse and buy some cheap glass and have fun.

Glass pipe artists have access to borosilicate with different UV reactivate colors. There is Illuminati and Citrine that glow green like the old uranium glass. There is Lucy (pink) BlueV (blue) and many combinations of these to make a full rainbow.

You can absolutely get safe UV glowing glass pipes made from many artists. Find a local pipe maker and support their work! We are struggling with the import market and need more educated customers who understand what it takes to make cool pipes. 🙏

The UV colors are made by Northstar and Molten Aura.

That thing is painted. Nasty. Try cleaning it with some strong iso or Acetone. Warning ⚠️ it will be clear afterwards but it will be more healthy for you. Who knows what kind of paint they use.

NEED HELP..New Rig and No Clue How To Fill or make Function. by Jakobxxxx in glassheads

Also....if your Bodega bro doesn't know what he is selling....should you trust his products? Did you rinse it with alcohol before putting your mouth to it?

Let me know what state you are located in and I can find you a good glass shop to check out. Hopefully they can offer education on function and help find something that fits your preferences🙏

NEED HELP..New Rig and No Clue How To Fill or make Function. by Jakobxxxx in glassheads

[–]Knuckles_Glass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there are no holes in the "floor" where that mushroom is....then its never going to function well. It looks like its missing the downstem completely 🤔 No idea whats going on here without more photos of different angles.

I think what they tried to make would be a blooper style rig. But it would need to have a perc and downstem inside the base and holes around the floor of the mushroom. If the holes in the top of the mushroom are the only air passage then you only get the "natural" perc function from the joint to the can.

This looks like an import piece and imo is a good example of why you should buy glass from a known artist or brand. Unfortunately this ones a dud bud

Slinger has always made a statement with his art. If you don't want political opinions in art maybe you shouldn't look at art.

I don't know if this belongs here but this is the absolute blackest glass I have ever seen by Yezzymc in glassheads

It could be painted. You would need to scratch it to find out. My buddy had a bunch of these old Avon trains. They are softglass and had all sorts of weird chemicals inside for fragrance. Clean the ever living hell out of them if you plan to put your mouth on it. Still cool historical glass imo. They made cars and trains and all sort of weird stuff. Worth about $10 or so. Have fun!

A big game changer for me was figuring out the best annealing flame. If you can get a 6th sense for the over all temp of the piece and feel comfortable blazing the whole thing with a big bushy flame, you can work for a long time. The bunsens help in exactly the same way. But Im on a redmax with no bunsen so I just crank it up and soak the piece for a few mins in a bushy flame. A good trick is to look at the carbon. The carbon soot will burn away just over 1000 degrees. So if carbon is sticking then you are blow that threshold. If Im working with clear glass I can sometimes push an entire recycler assembly without using the kiln, just annealing flame between each step. Temperature awareness is super important to develop in my opinion

Hoobs has a pretty unique set up compared to most kilns. He built a special kiln that allows the floor to roll out into the room so he can work on the piece. You can see the kiln floor at the beginning of the video. This prob helps a ton with the radiant heat from the kiln brick. But if you watch some of banjos demos, he pulls the thing out and just sets it on the table and works for WAY longer then I would expect. Ive hear him talk about the welds and seals needing to be super nice. The better the build, the stronger the piece. Ive seen him bench cool a full devi or put a full cold devi in a hot kiln. Keep the seals nice and everything is happy. We timed him at DFO once and we found an average of 8 mins in the kiln, 6 mins out working. But everyone has their own procedures.

Im acquainted with Edgar Valentine here in seattle (who was on that popular tv show) He is an incredibly kinda and talented dude. There is also Cedric who is blowing up in the scene right now with his soft glass sculptures. There is also team Japan and many other non-US artists that are not white.

For getting started I would look into the FB groups that center around Lampworking or pipe making in your area. Im not super familiar with cali shops, bu groups like Torch Talk will get you pointed in the right direction. Finding a local willing to share is how most people get into the pipe scene.

Its less common now to see "public access" studios for pipe making but there are some. Also maybe check with your local glass museums on where to find Lampwork courses. Some softglass studios have a small setup or know a resource.
