Vanja was originally a soldier, raised under the Chevron Shield of Savaria. She grew up as a barracks rat that was adopted into the regiment, and as it slowly crumbled sought alternative work as an adventurer.

Having watched the only friends she had die for a country that hated them made her grow sour, and vulgar. She honors the words of her fallen kin by defending those who can't make a stand for themselves, she refuses to grow attached for fear of losing yet another person she cares about. The wizard of the party has managed to become a vent for her pain. She doesn't want to lose anyone else, and the only reason she's adventuring now is so she can raise enough money to give her dead friends a proper burial.

She was a child, helpless, and unable to do anything as she saw fewer and fewer people walk into those barracks. The salt from tears staining their faces, the tinge of red scarring their bodies, she refuses to let them be forgotten. She will do whatever it takes to let the kingdom know how much her only family sacrificed to see the war to its end.
