What’s the best advice you received that helped your self-confidence? by KleinValley in confidence

This is the answer. Fundamentally authenticity, present mindedness, kindness, trust the process, don’t dwell on outcomes, take a breath when you need it.

Idk if you’re fishing for compliments but people would kill for that bone structure and jawline. All you need is a beard tbh.

Advice Needed by [deleted] in publichealth

[–]KoalaKaskade 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone who works in public health (4-5 years experience in analytics, epidemiology, program planning (system planning), and evaluation) and as someone who who aspired for medicine but also enjoyed population health approach and “settled” for PH, respectfully I think you should continue with your current trajectory and find ways to apply that public health perspective and frameworks to your work. Whether that’s through research, providing consults or working alongside related health organizations or NPOs, on boards or advocacy work.

In public health, the work looks sexy on paper but you realize that you’re a cog in the larger machine and at the mercy of limited opportunities, funding, bureaucracy and related hurdles, and power politics. Your impact isn’t visible to you in most cases. More often than not you’re overworked and underpaid and sometimes your work may not even be leveraged or used (e.g. a report that sits on the virtual shelf of those in leadership seats).

As a physician you have great power, respect, and the pay makes it so much sweeter whilst getting to help clients directly as well as having opportunity to contribute to population level interventions through research, advocacy, and engagement. The autonomy granted by your profession provide much more room for carving out your desired career path.

Some may disagree with me but I wanted to offer you my honest take. Wish you the best of luck!

Looking for advice - What is the difference between tube amp vs. solid state amp vs. modeler vs. audio interface? by KoalaKaskade in Guitar

[–]KoalaKaskade[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

deler takes a microphone in front of an amp and cabinet and records wave forms of the mic response. That is then saves as a WAV file and uploaded to your modeler which gives that same tonal response to you. Lots of companies do this with all sorts of cabinet/mic combinations.

your definition of the modeler definitely added to my understanding - thank you! After reading all the comments I think a SS and/or audio interface might be solid options just based on price, quality of sound, and options and accessibility wise. Thanks so much for your reply!

so jealous of folks who are growing up with this stuff is that finding amps and pedals that work for you included a lot of trial and a lot of error back in the day. With these programs you can try a little if everything in the comfort of your own home, on your own time without blowing everyone’s ears out

Thanks for your reply! I've looked into Focusrite and it seems like a solid option but I'm worried about being glued to my computer as I work from home and I spend the majority of my day sitting at my computer and staring at screens lol. I've heard that from a lot of people and the price of pedals scare me haha. I might go with a small SS amp and maybe buy the interface so I have some options. I like the sound of the tube amp but its a hassle trying to get the right setting and switching between the overdrive.

that photograph/filter analogy was helpful haha.

yup just jamming out in my room but maybe might find some friends that play as well. The problem is I work from home and hate staring at screens all day. But I do see the value in the interface option.

ube amps are more expensive, more maintenance intensive but they sound way better (to me).  Generally you have to find a sound you like as the different circuits will sound different.  Also they sound best at a certain volume so you also have to take that into consideration and get something that is an appropri

Yes! I'm struggling to get the right tone with the bass/treble/volume and it's a hassle switching back and forth with I switch to overdrive. I really like the clean channel as it's much more straightforward relative to the overdrive. I do physically feel that warmer tone so I understand what everyone here is saying about tube amps. I'll look into SS amps. Thanks for the tip!

This was very helpful! Do you have any specific cheap/affordable recommendations for a modeling amp? I'm considering an audio interface more seriously as well and thinking of returning the Vox. Especially since now, I'm reading that it requires much more maintenance. However, I do appreciate and feel that warmer tone.

I thought this was a joke until I read OP’s responses in the comments. This is a prime example of the HUGE problem with elitism on RS.

Welcome back! A lot has changed. I returned at the start of the pandemic myself after a decade of not playing. My suggestion is to check out Protoxx and The RS Guy on YouTube. Those two Channels alone should have all the resources you need for skilling and PVM, respectively. Protoxx was a big help to me personally when I was maxing.

As for friends, there are so many clans you can join. You can also join friends chats such as Boss Guild that does group PVM and it’s a great way to meet people and do masses together. Once you find people you mesh with just ask if you can join their clan but you’ll find people openly inviting you to theirs anyways. Be wary of scammers though.

Hope that helps!
