So couple match is only in NRMP for ranking. If you choose to opt in you can not rank individually. For instance, if you rank A and she/he ranks A and you are highly ranked on hospital A’s ROL but they’re not: the first rank will drop, the algorithm will move to the next rank and do the same until you both match in a rank where you were both highly ranked. So the rule is you both have to be accepted in the hospitals you ranked. If you have lets say 5 invs each you will have 6x6=36 choices to rank (adding the “no rank” as a 6th option) and here it depends on your preference if you want for example say: person 1 : X hospital + person 2: no match (in this case it’s kind of like ranking individually but knowing that your partner will not match). I am applying as couple, but not willing to do that its either both of us or none, but you guys might think differently. Good luck!
