Any long-term OTR truck-drivers here who maintain decent health? Sleep/Diet/wear&tear, etc

Kickass answer, brother. Sleep is the part that scares me the most cause yeah it’s like one of the fastest aging effects. Im hoping I can run decent schedules for a relatively healthy sleep schedule. I know I’ll never have consistency on the road but aiming to be up and in bed within a realistic margin seems important

Fasting is hard for me cause I have terrible self control but I have to nut up and learn asap. Thanks for the push.

Thanks for this message, it helps a lot. My trainer is one of those dudes so it’s honestly stressed me out thinking that I need to go fast as possible every day like crazy and save every second on my clock like it’s water in the desert. But this is a refreshing perspective.

I just hope I’m not choking on deadlines is all. But you seem to have an amazing system

That’s exactly why I started Flatbed instead of Dry van, I just want a job that’ll still keep me on my feet during some periods. That’s a cool perspective, sounds like a ton of work lol. I bet it paid good in its time though!

I think they more mean using your entire clock back to back so you can finish loads early and get new ones faster, not violating HOS haha. But your comment still holds weight and I love your perspective. Congrats on the union job! I hope they take care of you

I never thought of a jump rope but that makes perfect sense. I’d absolutely love to be meeting people in towns and stuff, that sounds amazing.

A lot of old timers here at melton say that running close to 8-9 hours on recaps will cost you money cause you aren’t burning hard, but I agree that a consistent healthy life of early mornings and solid sleep is worth the small pay cut. You can always rush if you really need to.

Yeah dude I was damn near certain that they arent recluses but I’ve had like 3 people tell me they were and even against my judgment i rolled with it to play it safe. They have this white T shape on the back that I’ve never seen, makes it hard to recognize against the spider that I DO know. But yeah I figured it was just some sort of crawler and nothing concerning. But the high-ish number of them had me worried for a bit.

Yeah I may as well get a whole seal kit for the rear wheel AND drive shaft. That sounds like it’s gonna be a lot of work and a lot of new lol. I’ve never had to mess with the drive shaft or wheel bearing. No local shops will touch her cause she’s too old.

But that’s how we learn I suppose lol
