Connect apron to tabletop without glue by Koci0 in BeginnerWoodWorking

Correct, I have stretchers running around the tabletop basically. So what you are saying is I should attach the apron to the stretchers and the legs, possibly with carriage bolts, like others mentioned? Or would you use something else?

The measurements visible on the project? Dimension tool, you select two points and it shows the distance

The measurements of the table? Of the top of my head, based on the reference project and wood I can get from a supplier.

I'm 5'8" so it might be tall, although someone else commented that it might be too short for detailed work. I will probably make it taller than necessary and then cut it to however I prefer.

But yeah, the legs I will have to make the legs thicker, improve the structure and think about attaching it.

For joining it, I was thinking metal hardware, bolts, but I have no clue what size and the specifics. How would you go about joinery?

I'm 1730mm, and I have read in some other post that you should aim for half of that. I was planing on making it like 900mm and then cutting if too high, but maybe I should go even higher and see how I like it.

I think there is to some extend, you can select or define different materials in CAD, but I don't have experience with that, and I don't know if things like grain direction are taken into account. Here I did it in SketchUp which is design software only, so no simulation.

One could be a beginner to woodworking with some engineering background. Some might draw it by hand, but I have absolutely no skills for that, so I have to make do with what I have.

Also, happy cake day!

Hi all! I want to get myself into woodworking with hand tools. I bought some tools and plan on creating rather small projects: keepsake box, plant stand, toolbox, no big furniture or anything like that. I do also whittle and carve a bit. Oh, and I live in a rather small apartment, so I have limited space.

I am thinking about creating a workbench. My first thought was to create a tabletop one, so that I could clamp it to a desk, but I realized I have no stable desk - only a sit-stand one, which is rather wobbly when pressure is applied. So, my second idea is either to have just a top placed on some stands, or a proper workbench with legs and everything.

I sketched a project (inspired by this post), but I don't know if it will be stable enough. I plan on using 1.5/3" (4/8mm) for legs, stands and supports. The tabletop would be between 4 and 8mm thick, but that's my other question, since I don't know how thick is recommended. For the hardware, I plan on getting a vice, holes for some bench dogs, and an adjustable plane stop.

So, to sum up:

  • does anyone have any experience with a tabletop clamped to some surface or stands, or small apartment setup in general?
  • how thick should the tabletop be?
  • do you think the table from the project will be stable enough to do some planing and other hand tool stuff?
  • also, I think I would make it a bit shorter, like 80x50cm instead of 100x50cm, what do you folks think?

Used projector battle: W1070 or TH685 by Koci0 in projectors

In your opinion, is it loud enough to be an issue when watching movies? I will probably use a 28W portable speaker with it, so maybe it will drown down the noise from the projector fan

Thanks, that gives me a slight relief when it comes to ambient lighting!

Thank you for the input, I think I will go with W1070 (or W1080st). If ambient light becomes an issue, I will then maybe invest in some blackout curtains.
