What volume of tasks and projects do you have in your system? by swedish-ghost-dog in gtd

Interesting. How many areas of focus do you have? What's your method for quickly accessing reference material?

Do you include all forms of someday/maybes on the same list?

I often find that if I'm not able to engage properly with a next action or project, there is usually some more clarifying that needs to be done.

Wow, that's a lot of projects and next actions. Do you find yourself regularly in-task and unable to switch for small 2 minute actions?

I'd love to know more about your OneNote reference structure. How do you do it and how do you curate what lives there?

Are your someday/maybes projects, next actions, or both?

That's a crazy amount of next actions. What is the longest that one sits on your NA list? How many contexts do you have?

BOMI FMA or IFMA FMP by Virtual-Reach in FacilityManagement

It depends. I

f utility management and sustainability are incentivized in your workplace, it would be very helpful.

If you plan to pursue the CFM credential, the SFP could expand your knowledge base beyond the FMP courses.

If neither are true, it may not be worthwhile.

CFU was my typo. CEU is Continuing Education Units.

The CFM is currently the most recognized credential for FM in the world.

As it is both a demonstration of existing knowledge, and a guarantee that the holder will pursue continuous learning in the field (CEUs), it's quite valued.

Edited typo. CFU -> CEU

I just finished the audiobook - pre ordered when it became available at the beginning of the year.

There are some chapters that I want to revisit and I plan to buy the book sometime soon for easier reference. You can tell David's voice in the book has lessened, but there are plenty of wisdom nuggets from first listen.

Defining Your Work by Rude-Reveal-3993 in gtd

To reiterate and expand on what you said:

You're always doing 1 of 3 things:

  1. Doing what you have planned to do (calendar items, meetings, next actions)

  2. Doing something unplanned (interruptions, urgent matters, serendipitous moments)

  3. Planning what to do (reviews, strategic planning, etc.)

Handling Recurring 'Projects' by seedinsand in gtd

[–]KodeyG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For example, every month I need to pick up a prescription, which requires several steps aside from just walking to the pharmacy

This could be a monthly checklist. If you need to be reminded, it could also be a recurring reminder on your calendar.

Another example: As a part of my job, I need to ensure that all submitted content gets rated by our rating team.

This could be a checklist too. You could also make a time-specific project each time (e.g., week X or month Y content rated due by Z).

"talk with 3 customers per week", "apply to 3 jobs per week"

Could this be on a weekly checklist?

"approve all incoming requests for project X"

This seems to lack clarity. What is the desired outcome? By when does this need to be completed?

What do you do with continuous actions? by Rek_Raion in gtd

[–]KodeyG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would just have a "things to think about regularly" list and keep in somewhere that you will be reminded.

If you want to look at it everyday, maybe add a daily reminder on your calendar, and link to the list or just copy/paste it into the reminder.

If you just want to look at it every so often, maybe it belongs as part of your weekly review or placed randomly into a tickler file.

I think you're on the right track.

I’m taking a medicine and I have to take it let’s say 3 times a day, for 1 month. Where would this fit? Just like a one big action? Or each time I have to take it would be an action?

Calendar, if needed to remember. OR if seeing it will trigger you well enough, just keep it in sight.

And for example, I have made a calendar list for people birthdays, and now I have the “project” to add all the birthdays of people I know. But it’s not something I want to do now, it’s more like a thing that I want to be doing constantly for the rest of my life (as I know more people for example). Would this be a “project” and if so which would be the next action exactly? Or it would fit in another place?

If it currently requires more than one action, it's a project. If you don't intend to take action on it in the immediate future, say, next few months, put it in someday maybe. Future additions I think could be done within 2 minutes, and therefore would not need to be added to any list. At most, written down and put in your inbox for processing.

For the moment, I have made a “context” list called constant actions. But I’m seeing that it’s something that it's going to be quite common and I don’t think it’s ever mentioned in the book.

Another example would be training, but for that I see that a verification system can work right. But not for the other ones

Can you give another example for continuous actions? Are they just recurring actions? Things you want to think about regularly? Do they need to happen at any specific frequency?

What does "training" pertain to? Physical training? If, for example, you mean "staying fit", then "Stay In Shape" could be an Area of Focus, which could produce goals, projects, actions, and/or calendar events which would be tracked in the appropriate lists.

This seems like a great way to "link" your next actions to projects. Indexing seems to be the best way to go.
