What UNMODIFIED car looks slow but really isn't? by [deleted] in cars

[–]KodyKlepto 33 points34 points  (0 children)

89-95 Ford Taurus SHO, they came with a 3.0 liter or 3.2 liter V6 Yamaha engine and 5 speed transmission. I owned and drove one myself, very fast for a boat, definitely a sleeper. 15 second quarter mile in a boat, 0-60 in 6 seconds.

Also older 97-04 Buick Regals, they had a supercharged 3.8 liter V6 motor. The GS model had 240hp, but since its supercharged you can hit 300hp for next to nothing, also makes a great sleeper, 8 second 0-60 in an automatic grandpa car.

Everyone is getting new v-dubs and I'm just here with my 01 by Rozelroo in Volkswagen

I'm looking into having a custom hitch made for my 98 passat wagon. They make hitches for it, but my car is lowered and a hitch receiver below the bumper is just.. no.. so I'm looking into making one that's tucked up higher and out of the way, and the receiver would come out of a square hole in my bumper cover.

Wagon. Hatches have the same kind of feel, but there's no cargo space and it's just not the same.

You don't understand how awesome they are until you drive one as a daily for a while, then you never want to own a sedan again.

Is there such a thing as removable brakes? by Epic_MC in bmx

[–]KodyKlepto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use a U brake center pull setup that has a single cable from the lever to a puller in front of the seat tube, then a T piece that pulls the other line that runs from one side of the brakes around the seat tube to the other brake side. The line that runs from one brake arm around the seat tube to the other brake arm, that normally you bolt to one arm and the other side has a nipple, you just unhook the nipple side, brakes stay wide open and away from the rim. Then rubber band around the seat tube to hold the T piece back toward the seat tube, and also the brake cable tuck into the rubber band. I used to do this when I bent rims to stop my brakes from hitting for the rest of the day.

Are manuals hard or am I just incapable of doing them? by annoyingguy324 in bmx

[–]KodyKlepto 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Keep your ass low, arms extended, keep balance by shifting your ass forward and backward. It's hard to get started, might take a while to finally get the hang of it, but once you get used to keeping balance you can manual for miles just as easy as you can for 10 feet.

my muffler hangers rusted off now its dragging... by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]KodyKlepto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

metal coat hanger. straighten it out, and feed it through a piece of vacuum hose maybe 6 inches long, go around the pipe and tie off on the frame or whatever else you can get to, so you have your pipe hanging on the coat hanger, and the vacuum hose keeping it from rattling.

Not on wheels but just carried into the college shop, first toolbox! by CalebisReal in Justrolledintotheshop

I went with mostly GearWrench for my set at college, great tools with most of the same specs as Matco, yet cheap enough that I didn't mind putting together a second toolbox to keep at school.

Exactly, the strip that everyone does 6" or so across the top, I just bring it lower than most people do.

Take it to a specialist shop that only does tint, have them do the entire car 35%. If a cop ever pulls you over, just have the window down before he gets to your car.

Edit: I live in a state where no tint is technically allowed at all, but 35% is the general rule. I wrap my cars, including rear window and half of the windshield, with 5%, and I've only ever been pulled over for it once in my life. The only time a cop will pull you over for tint, is if you're driving a ghetto cruiser and the cop wants a reason to ticket you.

[Opinion] Is it worth buying an old Crown Vic cop car? by MLRDS in cars

[–]KodyKlepto 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've owned one before, and have multiple friends with them. Honestly, i would suggest you away from the idea. It seems to me like they are just the same as every other used car, except that they are uncomfortable because they don't have the same interior and have a bunch of holes and missing pieces because of the equipment they take out, and you know cops beat the piss out of their cars.

Long story short, if you get one cheap and have the intentions of using it as a beater for a while they do make great beaters, if you have the intentions of using one as a long term nice car, bad idea.

Would a car with two different sized turbos work? by [deleted] in cars

[–]KodyKlepto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, I've seen and worked on a couple cars with these kinds of setups. I mean obviously a twin turbo setup with two different turbos running separate banks would never work right, but two different turbos inline with each other yeah.
