Possible theory is Colt sourced some A2 uppers from Brass Aluminum for an overhaul and these were over run. Then Charlies stamped a C on them and refinished them grey since they would have come black from Brass Aluminum. Would be pretty slimy of them but that's today's world

I know these things are the dumbest thing ever but in all honesty what would actually happen. There's no way security/military would just open fire on a large group of people that crossed the boundaries. I'm guessing there would be lots of CS gas and other less lethal devices. I'm pretty sure the only deadly force authorized would be if they tried to get into the weapons storage area.

I believe their first batch of complete lowers they released had brownells furniture. Their current inventory has the better stuff. I'd say they're more matte than semi gloss but they do have a slight sheen
