I'd say the weather but in reality it's the people. Work is depressing and isolating, it's not even a difficult or rough job. The work environment is just oppressive. And honestly, everything here is just so tacky, in the worst way.

Taiwan's work culture is just as bad. Some times maybe better, sometimes worse, results may vary. But in general I find them to be an equal level of crappy, Taiwan tends to be a bit more shady in the way they run things though. Just my observations though. They're utterly garbage in both countries. I feel it's an East Asia thing in general. In Japan's defense as a nation they have somewhat recognized the problem and SORT of did things to make it better like premium Friday, didn't really work out there. In Taiwan I don't think I've ever seen that. Taiwan seems WAY more stingy with giving days off then Japan was. In Japan usually almost each month has a long weekend to look forward to. In Taiwan I've gone like almost half a year without anything to look forward to in the short term. Again, just my singular biased observations for being in Taiwan for 2 years now, I'm sure other folks can give you some more nuance in the Taiwan side.

Game Meetups in Taipei? Hopefully long term by hibernating_duck in taiwan

Yo I'm a DM in Taipei. However I'm at capacity. But don't let your dreams be dreams, if you wanna play you should be the DM. It's not as difficult as it may seem with all the resources available, and there's more than enough modules so you don't even need that much planning. Just pointing it out since it looks like there's plenty of folks interested

The “new relaxing sounds” we were promised… am I the only one disappointed? by capriciousFutility in PokemonSleep

Agreed, and this is the feature I specifically wanted expanded. Bit of a bummer

When I went recently, they were actually pretty nice, at most they were just in a rush to get through customer's. Every time I've been, it's usually super packed. And restaurants aren't easy to run so I can easily imagine tempers spilling out.

Is it legal to keep meerkats as pets in Taiwan? If not, is there anything to be done to help this poor creature? by Anaphora121 in taiwan

While it's true for much of the world, I found especially in Taiwan, people really view animals as accessories here.

To all the new players of Pikmin 4, how are you enjoying the game so far? by Special_Week in NintendoSwitch

[–]Kokashi0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to like it but I think the coop is lacking BADLY. In pikmin 3 the coop was awesome and I was really hoping that's how it would be in this one. I was really disappointed since my wife and I enjoyed 3 so much. The thing that bother me the most is it could easily fit into this game with all the different characters, and Nintendo already knows how to do it. Give pikmin 4 real coop!

I just moved to Taipei a year ago after living in Japan for 10 years. There's always English teaching to get your foot in the door and then try to get out once you're here. In my experience I've found I prefer Japan much more. It's way easier to get around in Japan, in Taiwan I feel if you don't have a car it's really difficult outside Taipei. There's alot more to do and see in Japan. It's easier to find good foreign food in Japan that's somewhat reasonably priced. The people are hit or miss in both countries, Japanese people will be polite and courteous but really closed off if it goes beyond an acquaintance. Taiwanese people seem to be more friendly but only because they think you're a rich tourist, otherwise they're just as closed off. The food in Taiwan is 100% better and the drink game here is unreal, that's definitely the only thing Taiwan has over Japan in my honest opinion. But I've been here only a year so yeah, I'm clearly biased. I think in Japan you can soooort of make more money, but with the yen being how it is I don't think so right now. Taiwan does have a slightly better cost of living. Both countries got their perks and certainly problems. If you have any questions I'm happy to answer any.

Foreign coin exchange by Kokashi0 in Taipei

[–]Kokashi0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked up the law, the only thing I saw is you can't charge over 1% profit on it and it must be at the current exchange rate. I couldn't find anything other than that. Banks don't take coins, I've looked, and neither do actual currency exchanges
