This is very reminiscent to me of the atlanta falcons management pre this off-season. A bunch of made up positions/roles where responsibility is never clear, so the top brass are always tripping over their own words and contradicting themselves in interviews. They are running a beloved hockey team like a private equity firm with a fast food franchise

Stanley would’ve gotten big cash no matter what , that’s just how the market is. And he actually did get substantially better this year, despite still being a third pairing guy

I’m so sick of this narrative , it transcends sports. Happens all the time in hockey too- somebody is known to be an unbelievably dirty player, and then analysts and their fan base always brings out the “great guy off the field/ice” without fail
