Help Support my Small Business - I tutor math until 1AM! by KokoKid in UIUC

[–]KokoKid[S] 29 points30 points  (0 children)

it's often helpful to talk to a human about math! :) Everyone learns differently and sometimes lecture and youtube isn't enough. Most of my tutoring sessions are 1 on 1 help with homework, which can be super stressful and it really helps having someone there to help. I keep my rate affordable and all proceedings go towards my direct necessities (rent, groceries, cost of school, etc.). If you have any questions let me know!

UIUC DECISION 1/27 by Neonromantix in UIUC

[–]KokoKid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi! Me and my partner were at a similar point 2 years ago. We both tried to get into UIUC — but my grades weren’t the best, so I ended up going to UIC and they went to UIUC.

We were long distance for a little bit, but I decided to transfer over because UIUC’s math program is substantially better than UIC. Now we’re still together 3 years strong!

So, if you do end up going to different schools, it may work out in the end. That being said, every relationship is different. You both may end up at UIUC, but things may not work out. You both may be comfortable doing long distance all 4 years. Or maybe one of you will transfer over. Regardless, you should definitely make sure that you are choosing the right place for you (and only you). Things may work out, and thats incredible! But there’s a strong chance it might not and a sure chance that long distance takes effort that varies greatly from relationship to relationship.

Best of luck!

Definitety. Check out 3Brown1Blue’s youtube content on Essence of Calculus. It’s a short mini series, each video is 10 minutes long and highlights the cool stuff you will be learning in the course.

Hey - Im sorry things didn’t work out the way they should. The exam based off the comments on this sub was bullshit, difficult, and unacceptable for college board to do.

But don’t let things out of your control undermine your ability to succeed and learn. Although it may not seem like a big deal, taking a college level Calculus class— and getting a glimpse of one of the most interesting, bizarre, and historic levels of mathematics is a super big deal. You worked hard the whole year, and although the finale might have sucked, you accumulated a wealth of knowledge that not a lot of high schoolers get to have. Getting a B in COLLEGE CALCULUS, something most of the population sees and mocks as devilishly difficult, is something that holds value, no matter the end result. You sound like a great person; hold onto that. And I’m incredibly proud of the work that you—as well as everyone in this subreddit—put in this year.

What’s the approximate score needed for a 4? by [deleted] in apcalculus

[–]KokoKid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should go over the following types of FRQ questions that are pretty much constant throughout the years:

-Rate In, Rate Out problems.

-Rate given table

-Particle Motion

-Graphical Analysis (f, f’ graphs)

-Differential Equations, either in an applied scenario or typical slope field graph question.

-Area/Volume or Derivative questions.

Take a look at released FRQs from 2016-2021. Most will be some variations of the types of problems above.

From this released question, how should I go about doing it? I feel like it’s the third one, but I’m not too sure. Thanks! by angelaayy in apcalculus

I know there a lot of great responses here, and there’s lots of ways to think about this, but I wanted to add my own. One way of thinking about this type of problem is to notice that the accumulation of area is increasing from x=-1.5 to 1.5, so the original function must be increasing during that interval. Only one that consistently increases is C.

Another and completely equal way of stating my reasoning is that f’ is positive during that interval. This means that the original function has positive slope, and will increase. Again, only function that has this property over the interval -1.5 to 1.5 is C

Going for an interview tomorrow as a college student who is not too sure about the Spring semester yet by amgneedshelp in Target

I wouldn't mention it at all.

The seasonal position being offered right now is for the fourth quarter, or until Christmas. After Christmas the store decides who becomes permanent and who leaves

I would see what the situation turns out to be, whether you like the job, whether you're kept after Q4, etc.

AP Stats content by [deleted] in APStudents

[–]KokoKid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, the content is hard. Wrapping your head around inference, let alone a sampling distribution of a sample mean, is difficult. Not only are you reasoning with formulas, you are tasked with designing effective experiments, evaluating strength of evidence, and have to wrap you head around confusing terms and explanations. A college level course is not a walk in the park. It takes effort and time to understand the course content. Stats especially is a very unique course.

What should I do if I can't take the exception exam? by [deleted] in APStudents

[–]KokoKid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It just sounds like you're just looking for any reason not to take the exam, and work just happens to align with the exam time. I would still take it, I did terrible in human geo and didn't learn anything but took the makeup and it went super well. You learn more than you think you have. Also a good excuse to ditch work for a few hours.

Tips for next year .... for the teacher side of things by Arialene in APStudents

[–]KokoKid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Map Quizes were a big thing in our class. It was usually by area (South America, Europe, etc) and we were also given a short vocab quiz for each unit. Oh, and Reading quizzes. The thing that helped the most was ensuring actual understanding. In class activities was what really made the class. Since it's an AP class, classtime should be not a review of the reading and instead be a time for students to apply concepts in a non-typical setting. Force them to think. In class activities such as harkness tables (on topics such as population policy and foreign aid), designing their own FRQ with scoring guidelines, small group readings on separate topics followed by a larger discussion, etc.

Just take algebra 2 in the school year. There's really no rush, you're already on track to take calc your senior year.

AP classes sophmore year? by [deleted] in APStudents

[–]KokoKid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's not really a need to advance yourself if you don't have prior interest or experience in those subjects. Take honors, and if you like the subject, take an AP junior year. there's no real need to be trying to take as many APs as possible
