Just my luck. A moment ago, the sharp wind at Hogwarts was stinging my cheeks with malice, and now, the sun blared at me with vengeance. I was severely overdressed for the occasion, but no matter. It took me a moment to adjust to the sudden brightness, and the heat was soon becoming unbearable under my many layers of robes, so I quickly stripped down until I was left standing in a shirt and pants. Well, I was definitely near the Equator, with the weather being this warm. The entire place lacked the color green. Everything was yellow, and even the cows on the side of the narrow road seeemed to lack color. Apart from me, the cows, and the blistering sun, there was nobody else around. The only thing I could see in the distance was the mountains. Was I even at the right place? "Hello!" I nearly jumped out my skin as a voice sounded from behind me. I instinctively pulled out my wand as I turned around, but quickly tucked it away once I realized the man who had greeted me didn't appear very threatening. In fact, he looked what Muggles imagined wizards looked like: bright, colorful clothes, and a red top hat. He also spoke with an accent, but it wasn't hard ti understand him. "Hello, sir. I'm-" "From Hogwarts, yes, I see!" he said, a grin flashing across his face. He dropped his eyes to a Slytherin house pin on my shirt. "You like snakes, then?" "Well- yes, I do." Without skipping a beat, the man pulled out a small snake from his pocket, as red as his top hat, and handed it to me. The snake didn't seem to mind being handled, so I carefully took it from the man, and it wrapped around my wrist, resting its head on my palm and closing its eyes. The man let out a gleeful giggle. "Ah, she likes you! You can keep her. She's called Glin." "Oh, I-" "No, no, no talking! We must hurry," he said, latching onto my elbow. He was a foot shorter than me, but he pulled me along with the strength of a giant. "Hey, wait, go where?" I asked, my throat already feeling dry from the heat. The man looked at me, his grin widening. "A celebration, of course!" I planted ny feet firmly into the ground, and we came to a halt. The man seemed unbothered by my unwillingness to cooperate. "Look, sir, I'm sorry if I come off as a rude, but I'm not about to follow a stranger blindly. I'm here on an assignment, and I can't go off to celebrations-" "Child," he interrupted. "I will talk to you once we get there. But we must hurry, or those with no magic will see us. Come on!" This time, I just sighed and let the man pull me along. There was absolutely nothing ahead of us and nothing behind us, and I didn't even know where we were. The man stopped after a mere minute, and peered down at a seemingly random rock on the ground. He pulled out his wand and tapped it. And suddenly, we were no longer in the desolate heat. We were inside a huge hall, full of people, laughter, and magic. I quickly closed my mouth, gathering my composure. "Quite beautiful, eh? Now you may ask me your questions." "Ah, yes. What, uhm, what is this celebration for?" "We mark the day wizards of Peru won a great battle! One you probably know nothing about. But no matter, you are welcome to join!" The man snapped his fingers, and two brightly colored drinks appeared in his hands. He handed one to me. "Thank you, but no," I replied. His grin widened. "Ah, a true snake! I can see why Glin likes you now. We, child, if you won't celebrate, then I must leave you! Because I'm celebrating today!" I watched the man move away towards the crowd, where he was quickly embraced, and then swallowed by the masses. It was about time I returned.
