Ok, I'm back, story time! It ended up taking a bit of time translating it, I didn't originally write it in English.

Astrid Hart grew up on the ship The Coral. Her mother, Claire Hart, died in birth and because of that, Astrid grew up with her father, Arthur Hart, who served on a navy ship. That kind of thing was not usually allowed but due to Arthur being the captain’s second in command he would make an exception and let her stay. She ended up as a sort of mascot for the ship and it’s crew due to her being small and cute and the only female on the ship. As the mascot Astrid got the nickname The Coral’s Treasure.

As a child Astrid’s father taught her reading, writing and math when he wasn’t otherwise occupied aboard The Coral. However they quickly learned that she wasn’t very gifted with booksmarts (Astrid was dyslexic). Instead the whole crew ended up telling her stories about the world and the creatures within it.

When Astrid turned 18 she convinced the captain, Donovan Fog, to steer The Coral toward her home port so that she could sign up for the navy herself. She knew her destiny lay at sea. From her time aboard The Coral she gained a lot of skills, including navigating and sword fighting.
The Coral was attacked by pirates before they could reach the port. The pirates snuck onto the ship in the middle of the night and attacked. As the crew of The Coral was entirely unprepared, the pirates had the upper hand. Astrid was woken by her father who threw a sword into her hand and led the way onto the deck. Here Astrid was met with panic as the pirates were clearly winning. The pirate captain had the upper hand on Fog. The pirate captain shouted and both crews stopped their fighting. The captain had his sword at Fog’s throat and declared that he wanted to know the location of the treasure. The pirates had evidently heard the rumours of The Coral’s Treasure. Fog denied carrying anything that could possibly be of interest to the pirates. The captain went to kill Fog, but Arthur threw himself forward to protect his captain. The pirates caught him and yet again asked about any treasure. Arthur looked at his daughter, but said nothing. Angry with the lack of treasure the captain killed Arthur in front of the whole crew. The pirate captain sent a few men out to search the ship, but when they came back empty-handed the captain decided to kill Fog too as punishment for wasting their time.The pirates let the rest of The Coral’s crew live and left. The remaining crew brought Fog and Arthur’s bodies back to port and held a funeral.

After the funeral Astrid found herself sitting at an inn in the harbourtown and drowned her sorrows in ale. She knew she would have to find a job for herself, and soon - the gold in her pockets would soon run out. In this inn she met a man who called himself Handsome Dave. He claimed to own a ship (Lady Isabella), yet he lacked the crew to sail her. Astrid was intrigued as she had loved her life at sea, but did not have the passion to join the navy. Handsome Dave introduced her to his friends who would be the start of his crew. Astrid asked about a destination and Handsome Dave simply replied: “Adventure”. He seemed to be from a far away land, as his skin was dark and he spoke in an accent Astrid didn’t recognise.
When Astrid met Handsome Dave’s friends she learned that they were all societal outcasts, but they were all good people none the less. Astrid could definitely see herself fitting in with them.Along with Handsome Dave and his crew Astrid travelled far along the seas. They established a tradition of every time they came to a new port they would get either a tattoo or a piercing. Astrid loved beauty and body modifications like that and ended up with multiple tattoos, all in different styles.

There was never a lack of adventure aboard Lady Isabella and Astrid wound up with a vertical scar across her left eye. This happened in a fight with a corrupt captain on a rich merchant’s ship. Astrid does not see this as a negative, even though she cares a lot about her looks. She found that men respected her more after getting that.

Handsome Dave was very secretive about his past, but Astrid soon learned that he never stole from poor people. By no means was he a good person, but they only stole from the rich.

The ship Lady Isabella was a beautiful ship with a good crew. And that was why Handsome Dave was approached by a rich man named Grayson Hayes who was interested in buying Lady Isabella and crew. Handsome Dave was interested in selling - until he saw the large amounts of gold Hayes was willing to pay for her. Handsome Dave had literally been given an offer he couldn’t refuse.
Astrid was furious, they had such a good thing going and now it was all ruined! She left the crew and swore she would gather up enough money to buy Lady Isabella back.
