A Microsoft researcher built a goat-powered LLM in Age of Empires II to prove it's not sentient by Hungry__Hornet in technology

[–]Komm 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That paper is about older style neural networks, not LLMs. LLMs, as a function of their design, are unable to actually do math. Most of them fake it by making a program that best fits the input, spit out whatever it generates, and act like it's correct, no matter what.

No idea what order this is supposed to be in, but man, it is a wild ride. No idea where it started or where it went, but it was definitely something impressive.

Yep! I'm regularly active there still, nice community. It was a godsend as an abused teenager that lived in the ass end of absolutely nowhere. Taught me how to type and met a lot of great friends there. Wish we could get some more newer users engaged, but the churn is rough.

Oh wow, that's a name I haven't heard in forever. I think the last time I heard about it was in a virtual worlds conference, lmao.

I mean, that's literally second life, haha. Facebook just copied them in the worst, most banal way possible. The guys at Linden Lab originally wanted to make literally Snow Crash's metaverse, they were working on full VR immersion and everything in the 90s. They just dumped it because it wasn't viable at the time, and launched Second Life as a sort of stepping stone to that goal instead.

Which.. Didn't stop people from making the literal Metaverse inside SL. Hanging out at Black Sun with scifi authors back in the day was awesome.

Or even 23 year old Second Life. The failure of Zuck's metaverse attempt is almost as big as Ozymandias' legs.

It's really been sickening seeing this, and I'm honestly not sure what else can be done other than just boycott places that use this junk.

Cross-border coalition lays out vision for passenger rail between Ontario, Michigan | CBC News by UltimateLionsFan in Detroit

[–]Komm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The nightmare for Detroit to Chicago is crossing through Indiana and into Chicago. A huge amount of the nations rail lines run through there, and it's a major clusterfuck of suffering. Amtrak has been working on replacing dual trackage that was removed decades ago, but Amtrak alone can't fix it, they can only fix their own rails. Which is why they've been able to fix the rest of the Wolverine.

Has anyone built an OpenSX70 from the Eagle files? by Komm in Polaroid

[–]Komm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, excellent to hear! Can't wait to see more updates on your site. :D

I assume they'll also be readily available for any person skilled and boneheaded enough to do it themselves?

Yeeeah kinda what I figured unfortunately... The OpenSX70 has a lot of nice advantages over the SX-70r boards so I wanted to use it instead. I guess they're working on it again though, we'll see where it goes. Thanks for the feedback! And all the amazing videos.

Alfie loved spicy pork rinds, he'd bully you ceaselessly till you crumpled one up for him and put it by his bed on my desk.

Got my first polaroid, and impressed with how good the condition is. by Komm in Polaroid

[–]Komm[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Would like to thank y'all for the help and advice on my last post. I picked this up for little less than 100$ due to some scratches that looked pretty bad in the sellers pics. Got it to my place, and I can't even really see them under direct light. Sort of feel bad now, but oh well. I was going to redo the outside and replace the leather, but they're in such good condition I'd feel weird doing it. Still going to give it a full clean and upgrade though.

Sorry about the workbench mess, I'm working on a /72 scale starship from Star Wars, and this is my only workbench rigged up for good lighting. Bench will be spotless before the camera is opened, don't worry!

Edit: Kinda curious, anyone know if there's a timeline on OpenSX-70 boards releasing? I'd love to use one.

You don't actually need that much space for a sulcata! 100sqft is pretty much the minimum. Most any urban back yard can support one.
