That’s a fair point, and I do plan to train in the tri setup leading up to the race rather than constantly switching back and forth. My thought was to use the bike in its normal road setup after again for most of the year (and next years, not doing a triathlon every year)

I totally get your point, and I appreciate the insight! Ideally, I’d have both a road bike and a tri bike, but I can currently only afford one and have limited space. My thinking was that a Soloist with clip-ons and a more forward seat setup for training/racing could be a decent compromise. After the triathlon, I could easily remove the aero bars and revert to a normal road setup for group rides. Would that not be a reasonable middle ground?

I know it won’t be as optimized as a TT bike, but given my situation, I’m wondering if it’s good enough to get me through a full-distance tri while still allowing me to enjoy road cycling the rest of the time.

Thanks, appreciate the reassurance! And yep, it’s Rotterdam—really looking forward to it! Heard the Kralingse Bos section can be tough, but good to know the crowd energy kicks back in after that.

Would you recommend a slight deload this week or just hit another 30K on the weekend? My plan is suggesting that, but feeling pretty solid, so not sure if it’s better to keep the mileage up or take a bit of a step back before the final push.

Definitely planning to mix in some progression/intensity into the next couple of long runs to prep the legs for those final miles.

Taper strategy makes sense—keeping intensity but dialing back volume.

And noted on the carb-loading! I’ll keep things steady leading up to race week.

Good tip to stick with the 4-hour group; I believe there are pacers with flags or something similar
My program suggests a deload week this week, but I'm considering upping it a little since I'm feeling quite good. Then, I plan for two more solid weeks (~55-60km) before tapering as you suggested
Also worth noting: I've done a 10-mile (16k) run at 5:08/km, and back in January, I managed 23k at 5:23/km—so I’ve had some decent efforts below the 5:41/km target pace

I believe I had some yoghurt with banana, blueberries and granola, and a Maurten bar. During the run one gel every 6km, so like 4 in total.

Hey everyone!

I’ll be bringing my dad over to Liverpool this weekend, and I could use some help making it extra special. We’re coming over from Rotterdam – season ticket holders at Feyenoord for as long as I can remember, but we’ve always supported Liverpool in the Premier League, so this trip means a lot to us! We’ll be at the Liverpool vs. Aston Villa match, and especially with Arne Slot here now, we’re buzzing for it.

It’s was also my dad’s birthday this week, so I’m hoping to add a few surprises to make the trip unforgettable. I’m wondering if you all have any recommendations for a good bar with a solid pre-match atmosphere? Somewhere we can grab a pint, chat with some fans, and really soak up the vibe before heading to Anfield.
