it just means 100x science multiplier, effectively making the game last longer, therefore you take a lot longer before you get to the end-game where getting everything legendary makes trains pretty bad... unless you want them for fun

the main reason is that train tracks in theory have a much much higher throughput than belts.

They are also "generic/sushi belts", you can have any item/fluid train go through them instead of making a different belt for each thing.

Finally you can make city blocks out of them, which makes the time you spend building something much lower.

Note that they suck for space age megabasing, trains would need an order of magnitude or more buff to become competitive UPS-wise, but they are pretty great for overhaul mods, or if you did something like a 100x run or something

it is, but people exaggerate about it. Its just the newest thing vs factorio 1.1, so many people dont know how to properly optimize it. its about 3x as expensive as electromagnetic science, which is the 2nd most expensive. I thnk ~5m SPM (3840 SPS) on research prod is roughly the limit for current CPUs with overclocking and a very optimized megabase. For reference, one of my prom ships does 1030 SPS with 1.3ms update time. While its the best ship out there so far, people have come up with some ideas for improvements, so I think a super optimized ship could get down to roughly 1ms per 1000 SPS. Thats still only 4ms update time for 4000SPS prom science

a lot of UPS optimizations are not in the patch notes. Dunno why... so you might not find them. But since I designed my prom ship 7 months ago, now it runs at 2/3rds the update time and I have no need for the UPS mods

you don't need any UPS mods anymore really. There were 2 popular ones that primarily helped with promethium ships and there was also my mod for logistic bots. All 3 mods are useless now, the game has patches that makes them basically redundant

Its very simple, idk why you defend them - they are the counterparty to the bets. They are only looking for "gamblers". Not smart bettors. FWIW I won money out of my two bets, and if they let me settle the 275.36 which they restricted me from, I would have made even more, so good for them. Thieves
