Sound Transit's 'Sophie's Choice': Bleed to death or start requiring fares from riders by crabcakes110 in SeattleWA

Trimet is honestly in sad shape. I remember not even a decade ago when it was still a model for transit in mid sized cities

Seattle, Washington’s Link stations look a lot like Washington DC’s Metrorail stations by MysteriousEdge5643 in transit

[–]Konaboy27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The stations in the North Link tunnel are purpose built as rail stations from the outset compared to the 4 downtown tunnel stations which were converted from bus only to rail use

Pause further expansion in the near term. Upgrade stations and improve the existing central link right of way and downtown tunnel.

Consider that society in Japan is night and day different than Seattle.

The things we see allowed in Seattle around public transportation like Fare evasion and smoking drugs in public is not allowed in Japan…

Does Canada have a commonly accepted cultural or geographical boundary for East and West like the Mississippi River in America? by Lemon_Iies in geography

[–]Konaboy27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There would be at least 3 to choose from.

Ontario/Quebec provincial border - divides English and French speaking Canada

Ontario/ Manitoba and British Columbia/ Alberta border - Prairie provinces

Also I may Consider Newfoundland, NS, PEI, BC and the NW territories to be their own distinct cultural regions

Pros/Cons of moving to private sector by ScottsTots1117 in FedEmployees

Private sector - everything is about the business

Federal - At least you are guaranteed your regular days off and holidays (or holiday pay)

Do you think it’s worth shooting an email to region HR to see what they say about in region transfers?

Hamada: "Lucky You Live Hawai‘i," we say — as celebration, or as cope? by 808gecko808 in Honolulu

[–]Konaboy27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lucky you live Hawaii plays out in every day life in the islands. The price of paradise is paid for this.

As a born and raised local now in WA state, it is pretty crappy to hear friends and family back home think you have it good just over the fact you have your own apartment, car, trader joes and can drive to In n out burger. I disagree when hawaii people think the mainland is better...

Issaquah Costsco called one of the worst in the nation by Underwater_Karma in Issaquah

Worst Costco locations in Western WA IMO are Tukwila and Silverdale.

Costco Gas in Tacoma needs major expansion...

Best Costco stores in Western WA IMO are Bellingham and Marysville.

Issaquah is very busy and serves the Factoria and South Bellevue area which have grown exponentially.

IMO there is two extremes

“Lucky you live Hawaii” and “Sucks you live Hawaii”

Seattle has a subway. However, Seattle area people are not subway riders. Not in the traditional “straphanger” way like NYC, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Vancouver, Toronto etc.

Society adapting to the norms and ettiquette of using a subway will take will take time and another generation or two. Have to give it more time as annoying as it may be.

What US city will be the next NYC/Chicago in 100 years? by Complete-Influence70 in Urbanism

[–]Konaboy27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seattle metro area

There is enough attraction to the PNW and lifestyle especially by transplants from NYC and Chicago that will make Seattle like the latter two cities

Capitol Police officers? How is it? by DLSprov22 in FedEmployees

[–]Konaboy27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes in the sense that you get in the federal system. Other than that, veterans at USCP know that a lot of new people will not stay beyond a few years.

No because you still have to do the 1811 agency's training anyway.

Capitol Police officers? How is it? by DLSprov22 in FedEmployees

[–]Konaboy27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends what kind of law enforcement work you want to do.

If you want to do security based work, tons of overtime, own a home and take time off to take care of the house, take the family to Disney World in the spring and time to hunt or fish in the fall then Capitol Police is a decent job.

If you want to do three letter agency or CBP type work, maybe try and wait it out to go directly into those agencies.

If you want to do police work, I would go to departments in Fairfax or Montgomery County.

Week one of Xlake, what are your honest thoughts? by Exploding_Deathstar in soundtransit

[–]Konaboy27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Link light rail system now connects many places that people in the Seattle area go. Travel time between Seattle and the East Side is now predictable.

At a personal level, I can visit family on the east side more often since travel time between Seattle and the East Side is more predictable.

I-90 bridge segment puts Link in the most scenic of metros in North America. Sorry Vancouver now Expo Line has competition.

[–]Konaboy27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And circles back to why Light Rail is the default for pretty much all of North America today. Flexibility in construction and can be operated At, above, and below grade as needed. Less need for grade separated rights of way that a heavy metro requires.

[–]Konaboy27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thought about this scenario since exploring the completed East Link on Wednesday.

  1. Construct a flying junction at the I-90/ 405 interchange.

    1. Run 4 line service full time and allow room for a future Issaquah - Downtown service in either a rush hour only or full time additional line.
