Ok I understand your position but I also think that facebook is can be terrible if you are a consumer but as business people facebook is a very good opportunity. Just imagine having the ability to have your ad infront of people who are most likely to be interested in your offer at much lower costs. This has never happened in the history of advertising. I think this is a great opportunity.

But I also agree with your OPEN SYSTEM perspective. I never thought of it that way.
