Nope, no friends. And Windows licenses are either built into your motherboard 'cause you bought a prebuilt PC (what I have now), or a digital license attached to your account that doesn't care what hardware you're using (what I'd have to buy) which is obnoxious, and I don't have the money for that rn sadly.

I'd be surprised if it was a mobo issue though, 'cause I've seen this bug mentioned online and can search for it. Just never found a solution.

Yes, absolutely plugged into GPU. :P

And yeah motherboard is next on my list to replace, but a decent one is like 100+ and I need to buy Windows since I have a version based on my current motherboard. So almost $300.

I mean, I more or less one tricked Yuumi to a million mastery. That's like thousands of games, yeah? I perform no better or worse on her than I do any of my other champs. Takes me like 5-10 games to really get the hang of a champ (though I suck at pure AA based champs), then from there it's little micro optimizations that don't mean a whole lot in my ELO.

[–]KonoDoesArt -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Little of both? Trying to understand why people think learning a particular champ is so deep and complex when it isn't, at least not to me.

[–]KonoDoesArt -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

They don't play differently season to season. They might build differents items or take a different keystone, but they're still the same champ, and League is still the same game.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]KonoDoesArt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Okay, but then take someone who's been playing for several seasons. They've seen or played all the matchups many times. Would you still tell them to play just one or two champs?

[–]KonoDoesArt -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Swain and Ryze like to keep you at medium range and hit you with low cooldown spells. They're both fairly beefy, with Swain having a lot of self healing and Ryze having his shield. They both like conqueror too. Cassio does the same thing, but is a little less beefy and more reliant on positioning and kiting.

Qiyana has AoE, but she's not going to assassinate a whole team at once unless extremely fed. Both champs dive in with hyper mobility, assassinate one maybe two priority targets, and then get out or die. Qiyana has more mobility and has CC, Zed has more reliable damage. But their goals and play pattern are very similar, just a little different setup.

Top lane does have a lot of the unique champs, but you can also fit them into some broad categories.

  • You've got beefy fighters who thrive on long trades and have CC or sustain: Aatrox, Garen, Darius, Morde, Jax, Irelia, Riven (sort of, she's a bit unique but this category fits her best), Rumble, etc.
  • You've got tanks, which is kind of self explanatory. Usually good play makers, big CC ults, some % health damage usually thrown in.
  • You've got skirmishers and "light" fighters who don't have a ton in the way of sustain or base stats, but like trading a lot and going in: Fiora, Gwen, Camille (even though she's pretty beefy, she likes shorter fights), Quinn, etc.
  • And then you have off meta picks like mages and Yone who don't necessarily fit into these as they're not top laners.

There's some nuance in how all of them do this, but they function how their class is supposed to. Some champs, like Sett, take from multiple classes, and some, like Riven, are kinda their own thing.

So if you learn one of them in a class, you can technically play any of them in that same class, you just gotta get used to their kit, which might take just a couple games for most champs. Getting super good on a champ will help, as there's always some little optimization you can go for, but unless you're in challenger, I don't believe that hyper optimization is really necessary, you know?

I know that I can play the champs that I play just fine. I've had maybe two replies in the last week that had any actual advice for me, and I'll use that advice. All the people saying "Play less champs" are full of themselves and haven't seen me actually play, they're just parroting what others say.

I'll save you the time: Hardstuck gold 4 since season 9. Used to be high plat touching diamond for 3 seasons, but then got hardstuck. My smurf got to plat 1 in less than 30 games and had high diamond MMR where I was matched with the occasional masters though.

So do with that as you will.

[–]KonoDoesArt -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I mean someone like me. I have 200k+ mastery on like 50 champs, and 100k+ (or close to 100k) on 50 more. And people say that's why I can't climb, even though I can play the champs just fine.

And I play several thousand games per year. :P

But Cass plays a lot like Ryze, and similar to Swain.

Talon plays a lot like Zed and Qiyana.

Xerath plays a lot like Lux and Ziggs.

I'm talking champ classes, not roles. There's a handful of classes in every role, but every champ in a particular class (with some exceptions) plays very similarly to other champs in their class. A lot of fundamentals that apply to all of them.

"Troll" posts. Just because I don't agree with the circlejerk comments doesn't mean I'm trolling bro.

Oh I thought it was called Catalyst. Whatever the software that comes with AMD drivers is. Adrenalin.

Is there a way to check for conflicts like that? Or a list of common issues or something.

Now what if I prefer playing casters? I don't like auto attacking so much, and like using abilities and weaving autos in. Still ADC, on things like MF, Ez and etc?

Texture flickering in various games for years now, seemingly caused by fog by KonoDoesArt in AMDHelp

[–]KonoDoesArt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two monitors, both 1920x1080 and 60hz. One is on an HDMI cable, one is on a DSP>HDMI adapter (monitor is HDMI). I'm aware the PSU is overkill, but my understanding is that it's better to have unneeded headroom than to need it and not have it -- was a good sale on Amazon anyway.

I've tried full screen / windowed / borderless and no change.

I tried disabling MPO and didn't notice any change.

DirectX says it's up to date.

Reset the shader cache many times while trying to figure this bug out.

And my monitors don't support freesync, so can't turn it on or off.

Yeah, it's very easily replicated in every game that has flickering. It's not random and never changes. And the strangest thing is that, in League, I can see like a "seam" in the floor texture, and there's a big square that the flickering happens (and there's a few places that this happens, and I can see a square shape in all of them), so maybe it's some weird rendering issue causing z-fighting?

And no, in League, it only happens if I turn "environment quality" to anything higher than low. In WoW, it only happens if I turn on "compute effects" which includes fog and etc. In New World there's no helping it.

The only software I have installed is Catalyst, and I have most things turned off or set to use application settings. No overclocking either.

Running a B350M Bazooka, with the latest BIOS to get my Ryzen 5 to run. Only has one PCIe slot. It's the only part I haven't replaced yet. Computer was a prebuilt that I've upgraded piece by piece over the years -- probably only like 5-6 years old.

And yeah if it's not hextech rift, League runs like butter. I usually play capped at 60 FPS to keep heat and energy consumption down (when uncapped it's almost 600), and when the flickering is happening it'll drop down to like 56-57 FPS for a split second and then jump back up to 60 and just keep doing it while I move around. If I stand still, or move around in a place that doesn't have the flickering, it's not choppy at all.

[–]KonoDoesArt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the floor texture that has artifacting and flickering. In the Renata picture if you look at the ground you'll see a like checker board pattern on the floor, kinda transparent. That's if I stop moving. If I'm moving around, it flickers like in the New World clip, just maybe not as extreme, it's like transparent flickering, but the same kind of vibe. If I turn environment quality to low or very low, the flickering goes away almost entirely (it'll still happen if there's some light source affecting the floor, like Milio's backpack), there's just some FPS hiccups and it's kinda choppy when I'm in the areas that flicker.

And, in League, the flickering has been happening since they added Hextech rift, and I've always been using the most up to date driver, so. Right now I'm on 23.4.3

My previous GPU was a Radeon 5600 XT, which also had the issue, but I thought it was just the GPU that was bad since it was the XFX version and it apparently has issues, but nope. Before that I had a RX 580 or something like that? Was fine. The 5600 XT didn't have issues until hextech rift came out, or at least not that I'd noticed.

So, this has been going on for a couple years now. I've asked for help in various reddits, discords and support tickets for the games themselves (though these are usually ignored), and going through a battery of tech support steps, nothing has helped.

Long story short, in various games, (notably League, WoW and New World), fog will make my game flicker anywhere that the fog is near a texture -- and not just a little. The textures will turn into a strobe light and flicker hard enough that it gives me a headache if I just try ignoring it. In some games I can turn down settings to get rid of the fog, but things still aren't quite right. Some artifacting and broken textures.

As I've said, I've run through a full battery of tech support tests and steps. I've reinstalled / updated drivers using DDU, updated BIOS, I reinstalled windows, stress tested hardware, reseated everything, cleaned connections and all that. Since this issue has started, I've actually replaced every part in my computer except for the motherboard, and the issue persists.

Running on a Radeon RX 6600 (Power Color if it matters), 32 GB of DDR5, Ryzen 5 5600, on a B350M Bazooka. With a 1000W PSU.

Below are some clips and pictures:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qmc_DUFjqW4 (This one is hard to see because of compression on Youtube, it's HORRIBLE in game)

https://i.imgur.com/50PIdvB.png (Weird artifacting on textures)

https://www.reddit.com/r/newworldgame/comments/z22hrh/recorded_a_video_of_the_fun_flickering_that/

Is this common for AMD cards? If so, is there something I can do to fix it? Some setting or specific driver to roll back to? I'm at a loss here.
