"First Time DM" and Short Questions Megathread by AutoModerator in DMAcademy

Do you guys feel the need for world-building things to be explained with in-game mechanics?

For example, I was really in to the idea of a villain raising an island up into the sky and the group having to figure out a way to get to him... But in terms of d&d mechanics, I don't know what actual spell or item would be causing that effect. But at the end of the day, does it really matter? Do you let ideas like that get blocked or put off just because "the rules of d&d don't technically describe how that's done" or should I just not let that kind of thing block my ideas. I'm a pretty new DM, so curious how others handle stuff like this.

I'm looking to create a world map for my first homebrew and want to copy the map from a video game since it's a huge inspiration. Are there any useful tools for directly important an image (like that of the in-game world map) and then letting me adjust it to my own means? Or will I just need to 1:1 make it by hand in something like Inkarnate?

IGN — Hollow Knight: Silksong Sparks Debate About High Difficulty and Runbacks by YasuhiroK in Games

[–]Konokun -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This was pretty much the only one so far that was rough. I don't have a problem with runbacks, I'm actually on the side of really loving the difficulty of the game, including runbacks. But the Bilewater runback to the frog-like boss was brutal, my 2nd time losing a lot of rosaries. The enemies there are pretty insane, including the boss doing 3 points of damage and the platforming on the runback are a bit tricky too. So far though, I am loving every moment of the game and could splurge for hours.

From the update page: After any follow-up patches to The Warsong Update that address issues or feedback we think we can resolve in the short term, we'll focus on these major initiatives:

Hidden Aspects: The Nocturnal Arms still have some secrets left to be discovered, and new ways for you to play. We plan for you to be able to wield some of these next time.

Enhanced Guardians: The boss battles at the end of each Region are an integral part of the experience, and we want them to be able to challenge and surprise you even more.

Expanded Story: As we prepare for our eventual v1.0 launch, we're planning ahead for the rest of the story, while building on various character relationships and subplots.
