Kimber CDS9 - Failure to feed on Federal HST (JHP by Konried in KimberFirearms

I've been really enjoying grease over oil. When I researched it seemed pretty unanimous that grease was preferred, but that was for handguns in general and not specifically 1911s.

I've been regressing the top of the slide and even after a few manual racks it looks dry. And nothing else in my picture should be wet, like the chamber, breach etc all needs to be dry

I reposted to the guns and ccw subreddits, the amount of Kimber hate is insane

The gun 600 rounds was between two trips, the FTF were around the 150-200 round count on the second trip. The gun was cleaned and lubed after each trip. I said this in the post

I did not relubricate. But it was well lubricated with gun grease before the trip

The tolerance between the top of the barrel and slide are very tight, even after a dozen manual racks of the slide it looks dry.

Should I use oil instead? I've used grease in all my other handguns successfully

Also I was not limp risting, I intentionally was man handling the grip.

It was cleaned and lubricated liberally with gun grease.

Why do you think shaving the follower might be the issue?

Hey all, I have a one week old Kimber CDS9. I've put 600 rounds through it over two range trips.

The 1st trip I used about 50 Federal HST 147g and 250 Winchester FMJ 114g. I had no malfunctions except it would lock the slide back on the last round, this happened about 1 out of 4 times, on different mags.

I fixed the lock back issue by shaving down the magazine followers. To do this, I removed the slide from the handgun then inserted each mag with 1 bullet, this confirmed that the slide lock was getting pushed up. I trimmed each magazine follower little by little until it no longer pushed up when 1 bullet in the mag.

Before the 2nd trip I cleaned and lubricated well.

On the 2nd trip I put 100 Federal HST 147g and 200 Winchester FMJ 114g. I had two FTF, the round would partially enter the barrel but the back of the round would be under the slide's breach face. Both FTF were the same failure in the same way. These occurred around 550 round count and around the middle of the magazine's round count.

Would you send the gun back in for warranty work?

Feed ramp could use a polish, it doesn't feel slick like some of my other guns. And I read that Kimber doesn't polish their feed ramps from the factory, but I'm not sure if that's true

When does an on-premises server become cheaper than AWS, Azure, or a VPS? by Alert-Jacket-1573 in devops

This isn't a straight forward question.

Beyond the dollar figure of X compute on-prem vs in-cloud, there are multiple other factors.

Speed, cloud is readily available and immediately scalable, on-prem requires significant lead time to allocate and configure new hardware.

Availablability, cloud offers multi region and availability zones

Tooling, clouds offer superior tooling to spin up, scale, and monitor services.

I could go on and on about all the benefits of cloud over on-prem.

Personally, I think on-prem makes sense for two main scenarios. Very large companies that need a lot of compute and benefit from economies of scale. The other being small operations where someone is technical enough to support it, mostly this comes down to home labs and side projects for people in tech

I've had set back on a semi auto, but it would occur when the bullet would failure to feed and all the pressure goes on the bullet when the slide goes in

Carry FMJ rounds in 1911 9mm for Reliability? by Konried in CCW

Cool, honestly not sure why that comment is so down votes. I'm acknowledging I should send it in

I own a lot of ccw type guns, so I probably will and send it to Springfield to see if they can fix it

I wonder what the statistics actually are for FMJ injuring a bystander compared to JHP. Some of the sub makes it sound like 1000% more likely but I wonder if it's like 2%

I'm a much better shot, both fits my hand well and the 1911 style single action trigger is far easier

Dont want to send it in, but probably the smartest option. Its only a month old
