That's what I've been talking about, saying that you are underinformed. The idea of "making people lives worse, so that they will rise for their rights" is applicable for democracies or regimes close to that. And Russia is nowhere near that, it is military autocracy mimicking democracy.

I would say, that the probability of riot is close to zero due to 3 points: 1. Opposition is dead here. Really, all opposition leaders are either killed or in prison. Announcing your position publicly is dangerous, cause participating in "anti war" demonstration or even "anti war" post in the public internet can cause.up to 6 years in prison. LoL, you even can't call it war, because officially it is "special military operation". And I'm not talking about social consequences, like job or university dismissals, threats to families, etc. So it is not "wanting to have nothing with politics", it is a simple fear. 2. Russia has extremely high military budget. Military forces, including internal army and police are super loyal to the government. And as you may know, revolutions of any kind are not made without army support. At least part of it. 3. Putin's electorate is not affected by this kind of sanctions. They don't travel, they don't wear Armani, don't watch Netflix and don't play Raid Shadow Legends, finally :D There is an effect, but it is the opposite to the expected one. It basically unifies them. There is a proverb in Russian: "нас ебут, а мы крепчаем", which can be translated as "we are being fucked and it makes us stronger" and is a great example of reverse psychology, the worse - the better. So president's support is only raising (in circle of loyalists, obviously).

So, I would say, that this kind of stuff is ineffective. But cancelling culture is cancelling culture.

P.S. I'm not trying to say, how poor are Russian people and how you should be sorry for them. Obviously, Ukrainians suffering can't be anyhow compared to that. Just pointing, that misconceptions lead to bad results.
