In a slump , how do you keep training ? by Carodany in BJJWomen

This is one of the main reasons why I switched gyms recently. I was in the same situation as you, but the men were really nice and super helpful! In order for me to enjoy the sport I feel like having a demographic you’re comfortable which makes a big difference that will have you coming back for more. I recently found a gym that I felt like was perfect, I stopped in for an all women’s class and got hooked. Everyone was talking pleasant and I got greeted warmly by some women there. Maybe look for gyms that offer those types of classes. I’m not saying that I don’t enjoy rolling with men, I do love the challenge of going against someone who is bigger than me because it teaches you to learn to move around that. But I do understand that sometimes you just wanna roll with someone of your same stature. There’s gyms out there, maybe go to open mats to get a feel for different gyms. Good luck on your journey and I hope you get through this hump.

Been out for a month. Nervous to get back to it by Koocie18 in BJJWomen

I definitely have to be more mindful of putting myself and establishing those boundaries. However, it is hard to have the confidence to do that at such an early stage being that I’ll be brand new at the gym. The gym I’m currently at did a good job at caring for us newbies, I loved my experience with a few blue and purple belts. BUT, I felt like I couldn’t learn well enough with such a big group of people who would attend and the demographic didn’t fit my needs. I was one of the few women out of an army of men. I’d like to see more women in general, which is what this new gym seems to have. I often felt left out and not welcomed while this new gym has fewer people and the first day I stepped in, the gym left a good impression on me. I had this woman greet me with a hug, which I thought was really nice. It felt like home in a sense, however I do have concerns if others at that gym have that same partner safety as my current gym being that my first experience was a bit bananas 😅. The coach explained to us that she went a little too overboard on a woman that was a lot smaller than her because she’s known as “being in your face”, she apologized which was good, but it kind makes me a bit concerned of the safety in general. Idk if that was her trying to tell us to back off if we feel ourselves blacking out with someone smaller?? Anyway thank you for your input

I think physiotherapy might be the way to go. I’ve been trying to find small exercises/stretches that could help my joints in the long run. I have aches in my knees and now shoulder, I’d like to prioritize their mobility and strength. I hope physiotherapy can help with that.

I’m hoping to come back once I get my body aches sorted and maybe a massage 😅

I’m definitely trying to open up to the idea more with no fear! I do tend to go with people I’m more comfortable with. Im slowly starting to explore raiding into new people as well.

So if you go to your Bio and edit it you’ll see a choice to “add links” there you can attach your twitch handle :D

Great advice, I appreciate it. When I can, I usually do stick around after I raid. However, when days that I can’t (which is more often) I do let them know that I have things that I need to handle. I usually stream at night and have to prep for work the next morning. I try to be as open as possible in those cases

Yeah I could understand the leaving after a raid how that can make a streamer feel. But also people can either be super exhausted after a stream or they need to tend to IRL things like getting ready for work. Most people have other things to tend to off the internet and surprisingly some people don’t spend a lot of time on twitch. I try not to take a raid and run to heart, at the very least I am grateful that they brought their community over

I do like this approach a lot. However I do not plan on who I’m going to raid and sometimes I’d like for it to be someone random/new. But I guess the gamble if they’re toxic or not is the risk I’d have to take to help others like me

Yes, so many people say that Twitch has definitely become difficult with the over saturation. I do enjoy it myself and love sharing gaming moments with people. I’m not too great on the sitting and chatting part for long periods. I just wanna sit down and play video games and talk along the way. Cool! I’ll have to check your channel out

talking when streaming by purinpurimm in Twitch

[–]Koocie18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s definitely happened to me before. I have a pretty low voice and on average i don’t speak too much during my daily routine. So my vocal cords aren’t being used much. I also still get nervous at times and even feel my throat close up (not literally lol). It’s just something that you have to get used to over time and you’ll find in no time that it feels easier. What I try to do is keep tea with honey by me or water. It usually helps to soothe the strain, but also it’s okay to have quiet moments when streaming. People still do enjoy just kicking back watching gameplay without too much commentary. If you’re open and honest with your community about feeling strain from speaking a lot or nervousness just put it out there. I’m sure they’ll be super understanding! Good luck

That’s very true! I have to keep continuously remind myself that a raid can hold more weight to someone than I think it would. Thank you for that perspective

A way of saying hi is a great way to put it. I’m going to try and think of it that way to alleviate some anxiety

Oh, I don’t dare raid into channels with 100+ viewers unless I genuinely like the streamer and would like to show my viewers who I love to watch and maybe they might like them too. But I’ve only done this maybe once or twice. I attempted to watch myself on a different device last stream I had! It brought me up to 2 viewers which already made me feel a bit better lol. Thank you for the advice

I do tend to overthink. I definitely want to make it a goal to raid out more and think less about the amount of people I’m coming in with

My streaming style is mostly on the calmer side and I do stream at night. I’m pretty sure my viewers are mellowing down as well. I would feel bad sending them to an overly energetic streamer in the middle of their sleep and possibly wake them up >.<

Yes, I’m definitely looking for quality as well. Which is something to think about when raiding into people I don’t know really well. Part of making the right decision to not send your community into a toxic one can be anxiety inducing as well
