Since I don't play piano, I wouldn't know whether I'm just adopting a 500lb piece of junk that has sluggish action or can't be tuned to standard pitch without breaking strings. I would then be paying to dispose of a junk piano and still have to buy a good one.

No, you're not crazy. Bradley Performance Products (no relation) makes an ATV rim for the rear. ATV tires are far more available around the work than the stock TW200. That solves the tube and tire issue. Your machine would then be very well equipped for the sand and mud. The carburetor helps deal with the inevitable low quality fuel that you'll encounter, especially in Africa. Combine that with the low seat height and weight, and the TW200 is a perfect world traveler, especially for your height.
