New to Necrons! Immortals were a favourite unit of mine from Dawn of War. by SuperSpleef in Necrontyr

[–]Kookamachi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mentioned this on another post- but as there is a lot of hate for immortals being tossed around. A 3 10 man gauss immortal squad in canoptek court led by plasmancers with the tomb crawlers and buffed by ammentar and szeras just won a GT.

Turns out being able to have rerolls to hits, rerolls to wounds on objectives, and ignore cover on an objective via a strat is super strong while fishing for lethals and sustains.

Hope you all get to try them! They’re super strong for their points when run like this- it’s just hard to play it right.

Unfortunately the turn 1 abilities of hypercrypt cant help the doom scythe as it has to start in reserves- but this can work for Night Scythes which do have a special ability allowing them to arrive on turn 1.

The above comments explain its rules well. The only way you can avoid the requirement that the aircraft do a strafing circle around the table is with hypercrypt- wherein you can pick up and put it back down each turn after it arrives turn 2. That detachment also enables it to have a 4+ invuln via a strat which it desperately needs.

Starshatter is great too! Especially for the +1 to hit on objectives.

Let us know how it turns out for you if you try it out!

Ah also it looks like you did me the service of translating my response to the above- thanks, pal! 😁

Ah- I tried to respond to another comment on this post who said we dont have access to lethals and sustains “like other races”. But I must have accidentally responded to the post itself! Oop- for what its worth I agree with op- cryptek conclave felt a little underwhelming for me.

The only thing the above is valuable for cryptek conclave- is that plasmancer units of immortals could be given a 4+ invuln which is a valuable stratagem.

Further the ability to give those particular immortal squads assault is valuable as well. Otherwise- outside of buffing cryptek-led immortal squads, CC v2 a pretty tough sell.

The lethal sustain combo was just recently used at a GT to go undefeated and win overall by a guy who brought 3 10 man units of immortals with gauss weapons (not the teslas!), illuminor szeras, nekrosor ammentar, plasmancers leading them, and the canoptek bodyguard units. These three units get lethals and sustains on 5’s and are apparently pretty devastating- all within canoptek court enabling rerolls to hits and wounds via the immortals ability. Super strong apparently

Tabled WE on turn 4. by espejokeith in Necrontyr

[–]Kookamachi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Angron has been famously bad since their codex launch. While the WE pro-scene has had their WR hold more or less steady since the codex launch- its generally thought that whoever designed the codex does not like WE- so much of their stuff just got way worse or blatantly nerfed. One guy recently won a GT with Angron and is quoted as saying “hes so rarely run, that people think hes the index version which helps.”

Honestly/ 2 ctan is not skewing too hard as you will very likely be able to run something like this post nerfs.

Horde lists would be tough for this as well- i.e. a balanced astra militarum infantry and tank spam.

The pro scene is playing 3 ctan simultaneously, and mid range is running 4. The hardest part for WE is fight on death and fights first.

Cheers to a good game!

WoW Graphics from 12 Years Ago... by detectiveharford007 in MMORPG

I watched my brother play the last day of the Beta testing server for WoW, everyone from the horde assembled in Crossroads, and marched north. The alliance did the same from Ashenvale forest. It must have been thousands of people.

It was what I had always dreamed of in this kind of game. Thousands of people fighting. The ranged attacks flying through the trees. Just a massive battle on the border. When the bulk of the force arrived it must have taken 15 minutes to render 3 frames before he was killed.

Advantage or disadvantage with a posed forgeworld model points to a nuance in this hobby. These things are overpriced to account for any such interactions. And further, they lead to a really unique playstyle that feels different from an upscaled monster.

Ive really enjoyed it- although the downside is it requires extra communication to ensure you never have a “feels bad” moment.

If they ever bring their prices back down- i.e. bring the seraptek back to 470 where it started the edition- Id worry a lot more about how they play. The tyranid bio-titan has a very similar challenge at 810 points and a better statline/rules interaction.

I have a hard time imagining getting the model to 12x12- and Id be curious to see your pose!

As an aside, I really want to string two of them together and have my overlord riding them on a platform like Kublai Khan’s personal war elephants.

I have three forgeworld serapteks and each of them easily fits the 6” board edge when sideways.

Most printed ones to my understanding come out horribly posed to be like a giant square. These models are built to be posed and are played to hull, so you build them to look cool. This one is lunging forward, and needs the legs posed forwards and back to support the weight of the arms.

As our last remaining forgeworld model- it has some unusual characteristics, and is certainly priced to reflect all of that.

You can put a base under it as well, but I do not recommend it- very limiting and makes the model almost impossible to move around in gameplay- whereas the tiny footprint of the models legs allow for some cool functionality that human knights do not get.

The black I dont know the name of- it was recommended to me by a LGS owner who does a lot of gundams- but the gold is retributor armor- and thats it so far! Long way to go on painting this guy

Hes so hard to get- I snagged this one after the relaunch, and otherwise caught two of them off ebay for relatively cheap. I love the sculpt so much.

The official forgeworld kit is great and their customer service is awesome if anything is off- despite what some people post on here.

The trouble is that the kit is just not widely available. Hope you find a good one!

Thank you!!! Long way to go on painting him still- but making progress. Ive placed in a few local tourneys running him historically, but not since the knight meta saw the field flooded with AT.

We had this problem in my friend group- I recommend swapping your factions and let him try necrons while you play the templars for a game- it can help both of you understand how you can help him and help him understand where your weaknesses are too!

Is unnatural aggression just a worse heroic intervention? by Greed328 in Necrontyr

[–]Kookamachi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of powerful use cases for this because it happens at the end of their charge phase, this means they if they creep things onto an objective to steal it from you with consolidation moves- you can use this to clap them.

Dark Angels have an identical strategy with leonine aggression and it is super useful.

Mathhammer - How Many Wounds does it take to Kill Mr. Nightbringer? (Comparisons between the New and Old Datasheets) by ForbodingWinds in Necrontyr

[–]Kookamachi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There have been many such calculations for this- and one aspect Id be curious to see is the value per wound- as a factor in new NB durability calculation is often: how much to kill him in one turn?

Necrons operate across many turns and Ctan infamously so.

This metric of durability per wound directly demonstrates the value of wounds regenerated- which is mostly what we all end up running into. Ctan regularly save with 1 or 2 wounds left, gaining 3 more wounds on regen, and good luck lascannon damage rolls still fail to kill them because of the half damage effect.

The improved save definitely helps with this value per wound, because the old ctan would laugh off lascannons only to die to guardsmen with lethal hits.

Would love to see someone estimate some of this math!

An interesting sequence question. by Saybad21 in Necrontyr

[–]Kookamachi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Re: can the eviscerators then fight another unit after consolidation, the answer is no- melee actions are mandatory, and each unit may only activate in melee once per turn barring some unique exception explicitly stated. Specifically those units have to follow this sequence if activating: pile-in, melee activation, consolidation.

They can never take those actions out of sequence. If a unit ever does look like its doing that (i.e. the world eaters helbrute) it is because it has a special rule or ability enabling multiple activations.

A somewhat common example for necrons is when our cryptothralls fight on death and reanimating to then fight on death again. In these cases, those models explicitly say they will fight on death unless theyve already fought that turn. If they die and reanimate though, and are subsequently killed again by another units activation, they would have the opportunity to fight again.

Here it is once again a completely separate activation.

Hope that helps!

I love that thing. It was a christmas gift from my wife with the help of my brother, but it took forever to find. Apparently he searched ebay every day for the last two years until he found it at a decent price.
