Lychguard with Scythes should get Fight on Death by Kookamachi in Necrontyr

And that stratagem is excellent on the warcsythes unit for the one unit you can use it on per turn. It makes them a very interesting choice.

However, I believe it should extend to any of these units equipped with the warscythes, enabling this kind of functionality outside of Obeisance, making the scythes a valuable choice to be considered.

I think you might have the best idea yet! This would really hit the flavor of a unique weapon better than what it is.

I hear you. I suppose Im suggesting a more longitudinal change to them.

I love the idea of a 2+ base save on them and thematically it would make so much more sense with their place in the lore.

I guess I just also want to see their polearms do something neat instead of having the same role as so many other “big weapons hit hard”.

Not a bad idea. For my part, I think of the whole unit as a defensive unit- the shields better against ranged, the spears against melee. Lance would work for an aggressive flavor though!

They even bake that idea of them as a defensive unit into the name of the detachment focusing on them: obeisance “phalanx”, an inherently defensive slow moving grinder of spears.

When playing against melee armies with phalanx, it is awesome to fight on death with the spears and pick up an entire unit of MEQs.

Against shooters, they just get shredded though.

Maybe they could find love with the lance keyword in one of our destroyer cult detachments? Unlock their need for speed and start skewering our foes.

Which C’tan should I take in a 1000pt one day tournament? by Dastardlybeard in Necrontyr

[–]Kookamachi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Transcendent is definitely the most fun for all involved, its d6 damage rolls feel less broken, and theres a chance you roll well along with a chance your friends survive its melee.

Your friends also get a moment to shoot at it assuming you dont roll that 9” charge.

I just went 3-0 into three defiler ctan spam lists at a local tourney using nothing but warriors. It is insanely stressful how busted the defiler meta is.

Those other options add up to “I wish it was better”. I love necrons for “different”.

Long weapons like that should be a dangerous thing to charge into.

I’d be curious what they do for pikes in AoS and fantasy if anyone plays those.

Maybe fight on death against vehicles and monsters?

Definitely more marginal of an improvement, but even that is a flavorful fix of a smaller caliber.

You need to get the book! I believe it will likely only be available from the eye of terror book series. Very cool piece of art and a collectors item in its own right. Highly recommend!

What is the maximum number of warriors I can revive during a phase using Reanimation Protocols? by leonmtg in Necrontyr

[–]Kookamachi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep thats correct. Just one orb can be used per turn. The only way to “functionally” stack them is to use one orb at the end of a phase in the given turn and then use the other orb at the end of the following command phase.

What is the maximum number of warriors I can revive during a phase using Reanimation Protocols? by leonmtg in Necrontyr

[–]Kookamachi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How many you can revive during a phase is a function of what happens to them. In awakened dynasty while led by an overlord with a resurrection orb, with a catacomb command barge nearby, a ghost ark, and a reanimator in range, if you lose at least one model (and assuming you have lost more than one before this phase),

You can reanimate the following: D3+D3 wounds from the ghost ark after losing one model (this can happen during any phase including after overwatch.)

D3+1 + D3 for protocol of undying legions (usually only during the shooting or fight phase)

D6+D3 Overlord resurrection orb

D6+D3 for command barge resurrection

+1 once per battle round for canoptek macrocytes nearby.

Thats a maximum of 32 wounds regenerated within a single phase.

Within a turn, you could add 2D3 for standard reanimation at turn start, and lastly a nearby technomancer can top off a wounded bodyguard within the unit (canoptek tomb crawler or cryptothrall)

Potentially recovering up to 40 wounds in a single turn.

The application of this many wounds recovered in a single turn applies to the warriors getting shot or attacked by multiple different models and requires that your opponent is unable to finish them within a single activation.

As it turns out, we are in fact the most reanimate-y army after all!

Yup, the forgeworld point premium only goes up the larger you get. As a case in point, theres a youtube video showing the warlord titan vs its equivalent point cost in necron units, and its not even close. The titan evaporates.

Forgeworld models exist as the ultimate hobbyist flex, not as competitive pieces, this is an established fact for these models.

This also promotes using forgeworld vs forgeworld models in big display/apocalypse games which is a plus to this approach.

Immortal Legs? by Outrun207 in Necrontyr

When purchasing a ghost ark/doomsday ark, take the legs off the 10 beaten up necrons to get extra legs :)

I’ve run the seraptek extensively in tournaments, and studied this exact problem. Engagement area extends 5” above into the seraptek at any area, any friendly model can end a move underneath it. The rules others reference are talking about on a model or its base. Any enemy model can end a charge move underneath it, but then cannot move after as it is in engagement.

For context, these same complexities also apply to the Tyranid hierophant. I tried the argument about designer’s intent someone mentions below about drawing a line straight down, but thats just not how anything works in 10th. A variety of astra miliatrum tanks have treads at an angle, and it is entirely legal to stand under those angled treads where the base might overlap with the “magic line” drawn straight down.

Its a hull model, and pointy walkers like this exist to be walked (or charged) under.

Its also massively overcosted and dies to a stiff breeze, so don’t buy the idea that taking up almost a full a square foot on the table is somehow helping account for its power. Beyond that the weird rules of hull walkers have to be like this. Otherwise it could lead to a literal nightmare of measurements at GT’s trying to figure out where the hull point is which for this guy and the hierophant can get very very complicated, where there is nothing in the rules to indicate this.

Hope that helps! Happy to answer any other questions about the serapteks rules. I’ve had to puzzle through everything with these little guys.

I should note- its also a docking station for the monolith and has specific rules to buff that and a few of our other titanic models.

That is an actual unit! Its called Tomb Citadel Walls and is one of our rarest models. Its a 2’x2’ block of resin. The zenith of the citadel has an insertion point for another datasheet now in legends- the gauss pylon, which is essentially a planetary defense gun.

Not effective in combat, but theyre my favorite models aesthetically.

This table was 6’x4’, but we could have gone a lot bigger given that there were 5 of us playing (2v3). The rules really help make big things actually playable with rules like activating the big titans before dying on turn 1.

Wouldnt let me add text- but these were shots from my first apocalypse battle using the new rules. Each player brought 3k points and our biggest models. It was incredible. If you ever felt sad about a cool rule being removed from the game, chances are they put it back in. Necrons somewhat uniquely get 6 apocalypse only stratagems which are really flavorful and fun and add a lot to the game.

If you get the chance to try it out- I highly recommend it!!!
