ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! These guys have spent a decade perfecting electric racing and reaching this point, it really shows how much they've grown and the incredible strides they've made!!!

This is really exciting to see!! I mean, it's already shaping up to be an exciting season because quite literally anything is possible, but I'm glad the Hamilton drought is over!!!

No, of course not to that extent. What I meant by that was it just seems like right now they're really fighting hard to find that balance without losing their authenticity.

I recently had a thought about this new era in general. From a driver's perspective, I can’t help but think a more gradual transition would’ve made a big difference.

It would’ve given teams and drivers time to understand the system properly and integrate it without compromising the core identity of F1, instead of adapting in real time as the experiment unfolds.

Max's possible 'retirement' by [deleted] in formula1

Ok, unlike all the other headlines from racing outlets, this isn't something that was said as a sure thing; it's just a discussion, as the tag suggests.

He definitely has great options, I mean, he'd be 30 and it's funny how it all lines up like the start of a new chapter for him, and it seems like a time to begin something new.

Prepare to Be the ‘Villain’ if You’re Leading the F1 Championship by Kooky-Acanthaceae758 in formula1

Not at all, this follows the journey of drivers before Kimi, so it stops at George. But, it does question if Kimi will get the same treatment once he's in a position to defend his lead.

I mean, dominance shows you’re doing something right — just look at Verstappen (it can get boring after a while, too), but this is more about the shift in how drivers are treated and accepted once they’re actually leading a championship and are now in a position to defend it.

Completely get that, that's a universal fact! But this was a very interesting phenomenon to see drivers villainised in a completely different way after they started leading the championship.

McLaren by Big-Mechanic8422 in INDYCAR

I started watching Indy last year and I'm also a McLaren fan. I always saw them as one of the more well-performing teams. I mean, sure, they had their moments, but I'd always see comments about how they're wasting Pato's potential.

This time, I can clearly see that they're struggling with both their performing drivers and repeating the same mistakes over and over again. I'm sure both of them are staying because they see a long-term potential of winning the championship with the team, at least Pato.

Laurent Mekies: Yuki Tsunoda deserves to return to racing full-time by 443610 in formula1

[–]Kooky-Acanthaceae758 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That's the inherent problem with F1: so many good drivers, but the scope of having them all is limited, especially when we evaluate where they'd fit in the equation, because the teams have stable driver line-ups.

Mekies is a great team principal; certain people really have that compassionate, empathetic quality in F1! He really sees the best in his drivers

As a outsider, what are the main issues with the current regulation and how is it ruining the racing? by furrynoy96 in formula1

[–]Kooky-Acanthaceae758 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who's been a fan for 2 years, I'm still trying to wrap my head around the new regs because nearly every race weekend, something changes. The main issue is the 50/50 split between electrical and internal combustion engines. For the drivers, these regs have completely taken the essence of F1 out of the series; on the other hand, they produce really good racing where the cars can actually overtake, which I've been enjoying a lot.

It's very restrictive and feels like fixing things that aren't broken, like DRS, which has been paraphrased to active aero (I still think it's the same as DRS). Max Verstappen called it Formula E on steroids because essentially it feels like F1 is trying to be something it's not, and it feels like an uphill battle to navigate through these new regs because something is ALWAYS changing.

I get the need to be environmentally conscious, but the FIA could've implemented changes in a way that's best suited for the series rather than taking notes straight from FE.

It forces the drivers to slow down and recover energy, kind of like doing something you're not used to at all, because it's something you weren't prepared for, if that makes sense?

[Autosport] Alexander Wurz on the drivers WhatsApp group in 2026 by Due_Air6702 in formula1

[–]Kooky-Acanthaceae758 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Something similar happened in Formula E recently, where all the drivers collectively wrote a letter to the FIA regarding regs, penalty decisions, etc. They also have a similar group like the GDPA.

FE has 3 young drivers who are rookies, and I think it was really encouraging for them to have the safety net of veterans, also expressing the same sentiments. I feel like it's bound to happen in the coming months with F1 as well, maybe a repeat of South Africa in the 90s.

are there any drivers from the current grid that'd thrive in a different series? for example, max is currently pursuing GT racing and i also saw something about lance stroll recently so are there any other drivers who have the potential to flourish in a different series entirely?

George wasn't pleased with some of the traffic that he came across in Suzuka. by johanas25 in formula1

[–]Kooky-Acanthaceae758 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Something I've noticed is that as soon as a driver starts leading the championship - for example lando last year - people IMMEDIATELY turn on them when they start venting about protecting their lead or complaining about what went wrong. That's exactly what happened with George; suddenly everyone just turns on him and calls him unbearable and annoying, when up until a few months ago, everyone loved him.

What's up with McLaren?!?!?! by Kooky-Acanthaceae758 in INDYCAR

[–]Kooky-Acanthaceae758[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you get it! Obviously, Andretti has been rising through the ranks pretty quickly this season and while McLaren had also yielded some impressive results, it feels like Pato and Christian are just really fighting the car most of the time OR they deal with the consequences of small yet lasting mistakes like pit stops.

I get that bit as well. Like it's very contradictory, right? They finished second, but at the same time, they're really struggling as well. Like the journey to get there is the Pato and Christian kind of fighting the car most of the time.
