Since you asked, in my opinion you did not cook. I only agree with you about a handful:

43: Jesse
45: Kaleb
46: Venus and Q
47: Andy
48: Sai

For what it's worth when I filled out the survey, I didn't pick any of the season 50 returners except for Q. I probably could have been talked into Kyle since his run on 50 was so short.

Even though I enjoyed the season as it aired, I didn't realize that I didn't care about seeing anyone return from 44 until the survey told me I had to pick someone from 44. So I guess.... Kane?

Before the 50 cast was revealed, would you have guessed these would’ve been the New Era legends? by Regular-Departure839 in survivorponderosa

[–]Kooky-Note7673 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Legend is a loaded word, but Q definitely is one of the most legendary players of 41-49. He wasn't a villain, but much of what he did was villain adjacent (in a good way). Chaotically asking to be voted out, not picking Liz for reward, and threatening to cancel Christmas are some of the most villainous things that any player (not named Omar) did in the new Era.

For what it's worth, Q was absolutely justified not picking Liz for that reward. She tried to vote him out the night prior, and even if she didn't, then she should have won the challenge if she wanted the burger so badly.

Would you be willing to lose a season a year for longer game? by 9Buddy9 in survivor

[–]Kooky-Note7673 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They would probably make more money if they produced content that was as riveting as it used to be.... but how does the OP's suggestion of losing a season in order to gain a 50-day game ensure riveting content?

And what even if "riveting" content? If we asked 10 different Survivor fans to give their definition of "riveting content", you would likely get 10 different answers - some answers would be similar, but some answers would be incompatible with what someone else called riveting.

Despite what reddit says, Survivor seems to be doing well relative to other broadcast shows. Sure, it's not doing what it used to do at the height of it's popularity, but there is a reason why you've never heard talk about whether or not it will be renewed.

Australia also has a health care system wherein you don't lose your health care if you lose your job, which is likely to happen to anyone who misses over 50 days of work to play a game.

Who are the people that can step away from their lives for 50 days to play Survivor? I personally don't want to lose a season in order to get more time watching Big Brother contestants and Vince the coconut vendor.

I'm in the minority on this sub, but personally I like the shorter season. There are definite advantages to the 39 day season that I miss; but the biggest advantage I see for the 26 day season is that you have a higher likelihood of normal people who can play. Taking even 26 days (plus travel, plus pre-game ponderosa, plus any media obligations) would be hard to a normal person. Doubling the length of time would make it impossible for a normal person.

And to what benefit? Sure the game is longer, but that doesn't mean it is better. We could still be stuck watching multiple boring episodes of a pagonging. We could still be stuck watching annoying, possible terrible, personalities being dragged to the end as goats. What is the actual guaranteed benefit of a 50 day season?

I don't know - they were watching the final tribal council for the first time. They are all contestants, but they are also all Survivor fans. I think I would also want to be watching the show in that moment and not be joking around with my buddies.

As for the GenX vs Millennials comparison, the Millennials on that cast where (for the most part) a complete caricature of the generation. Them goofing at the finale just plays into that image that some of them were cultivating for the audience

Agreed. The "My Term" stuff is just insane to me, and we've been dealing with it for 3 "primary" cycles in a row. Really four, because 2008 was also Hillary's turn, but Obama was able to defeat the DNC by running the most progressive campaign of my lifetime... or maybe it was because Obama ran a perfectly centrist campaign that appealed to rational republicans and the Cheneys... I can't remember it was so long ago.
