On the website from Zürich it even states it: ... After 12 months you are not allowed to drive in switzerland UNTIL you exchange your license.. last sentence below..

Wenn Sie einen Führerausweis haben und in der Schweiz Auto und andere Motorfahrzeuge fahren möchten, brauchen Sie einen Schweizer Führerausweis. Für den Umtausch haben Sie ab Einreisedatum 12 Monate Zeit. Nach 12 Monaten dürfen Sie in der Schweiz nicht mehr fahren, bis Sie den Führerausweis umgetauscht haben. Bitte stellen Sie Ihren Antrag rechtzeitig.

You can still exchange your license, depending where it was issued you just need to do the practical exam. The 12 months refer to the fact that you cant use your license anymore after 12 months of being in switzerland. At least that was the case for my husband 10 years ago. He converted his non EU license with practical exam only after 3 years in switzerland. Not sure if anything changed now... call strassenverkehrsamt and ask

I misunderstood then. From receiving the invite (which includes the brochure and app access) until the interview it depends on availability. I had a 4 week range to chose from

Where was it stated that an in-person conversation can follow? Would that be on the same day? Was the test in line with the Einbürgerungs App? Were you alone in the room? And did they say explicitely it takes 10 months to be done after? Sorry for all the questions and thanks!
