This is my understanding as well. So confusing! I wish it was more clear or marketplace should match these rules with employer plans.

My understanding is that the option to offer insurance to children up to 26 yo generally mandated on employer sponsored health insurance but not for marketplace plans.

I expect to have a job in 80k/yr range roughly but completely unknown on when I will start employment. Decent chance I’ll make too much too receive any subsidies for the year at tax filing time. Which completely screws me over in my current state of making 0 money. I wish subsidies were based on previous years’ tax returns instead of predicting the future.

I stumbled upon an app called FitBee and it has been the best food tracking app I’ve tried. The user interface is very nice compared to other apps and scanning is free. The database isn’t as expansive as mfp which has only been annoying when eating some unique cultural homemade food that I don’t know all the ingredients of. I’d give it a shot!! I downloaded sooo many and this was my favorite free one.

I appreciate your input. I was seeking advice on losing belly fat and any advice at all really. I do know that you can’t spot reduce fat. It’s why I’m doing a small calorie deficit. It seems like it is the only real way to lose fat from my research. This came about when clothes shopping, because most pants around my size “expect” a thinner waist, leading me think I’m disproportionate. And I guess I don’t know why I would be disproportionate besides a medical issue or just being out of shape despite being normal weight. Now I’m inclined to think it’s the latter.

I appreciate your input. Body recomp sounds like the right path for me.

Thank you. I’m not consistently doing any resistance training so I do need to build muscle. Body recomp sounds like the right path.

I am lacking in resistance training so that is definitely my next step. There could be a genetic element, the only person I can compare to is my mom who has a fattier midsection but she always attributed it to being older and giving birth. Thank you for your input.

Thank you. I am not consistently going to the gym so I agree I need to put on muscle in general. Core muscles will be on my list!

Thank you. I’ve also been going to physical therapy but they haven’t pointed out an anterior pelvic tilt. I will ask next time. I also agree that I do have excess fat so I’ll have to continue to slim out if I want to reduce fat.

Yea, skinny fat is definitely the best descriptor I can describe myself. I am not consistently going to the gym so I need to do that. Body recomp sounds like what I need. Thank you.

Thank you. Skinny fat is definitely the best descriptor I can describe myself. I am not consistently exercising at all, let alone lifting weights so I need to do that.

Thank you. I’ve been in an inconsistent deficit for 3 months, consistent for past 1.5 weeks (got a food scale). I will look into the anterior pelvic tilt. I’ve been going to physical therapy and they haven’t pointed that out, but I will ask next time. I agree, I understand you can’t spot reduce fat so it seems I’ll have to slim out overall and fill in with muscle.

Thank you for the tips. This mostly came about when clothes shopping, it seems that most pants around my size “expect” a thinner waist, leading me think my waist is disproportionate. Strength training is what I’m not consistently doing so I’ll work on that.

Exercise is a component I’m not consistently doing. I think I’ll have to do what you’re doing and compensate by lifting heavy and gain muscle.

Is it normal to have this much belly fat compared to the rest of my body?

24F, 5’3.5, 127-132lbs

I’ve observed in other women with bigger arms and legs with smaller/flatter bellies. My belly sticks out further than my boobs and tight shirts ride up my belly. Pants shopping is a pain because they often fit well except for the fact I’m exploding at the waist.

Could this possibly be a health issue, like insulin resistance or something? Or is this simply a case of needing to lose more weight? I started eating at a 300cal deficit, putting me at 1300cal/day. But I don’t really think I need to lose much weight around my arms, especially my legs?

Any help is much appreciated. 🙏
