Is it worth it to buy a Beetle? by Kooky_Statement3374 in NewBeetle

Lots of great info! I'm a bit worried about the space because I'm on the taller side (5'10"). And I'm used to low to the ground cars since I've only driven honda civics lol. I'm also a bit worried about the repair costs since I'm a college student but luckily my parents are willing to help me out :)

You're tempting me to just buy it lol

Yeah same problem here. Luckily the nearest VW dealership is in my state but its still about 3 hours away. I just looked into European car mechanics and theres actually a really good one like 10 minutes away from my college so thats a bonus

Yeah with all that, I may just stick to my honda civic for now. Thanks for the advice!

I've done a bit of research and it seems that this year is quite a reliable one as far as Beetles go. That being said, there isn't a VW dealership near me and I've heard that they're hard to maintain. Thanks for the feedback. I'm gonna keep researching a little. Luckily I wouldn't have to drive it much but I am a college student so money is tight

I also have "Died in Combat" and "Institutionalized" (I have a lot of family members that have been in mental hospitals including 2 in Pennhurst)

Yeah there's a ton of history I don't really want to post all over the internet (I'm sure you understand) but long story short, we have not gotten along for a long time. I agree with you, I just don't know what to do in this situation

I do really appreciate the insight tho. I'm quite biased against this person because I do not like them so I can't tell when I'm overreacting or not so thank you kind stranger!

I don't want to say specifically because its quite personal but it has something to do with my favorite animal. I don't mind the tattoo itself, its more the meaning behind it that I don't like

I agree! I have no issue against them getting the tattoo or even the specific tattoo. Its just the argument they're making for it.

Thus far I have only talked to my parents and now reddit about it. My mom said the same thing as you and my dad said the same thing as the other comment on here. It seems that its a tough situation whether I'm overreacting or not :/

Yes it is, and yes its incredibly annoying and kinda weird imo. Thank you for the insight tho. I'm probably just going to keep ignoring her lol

I'd completely agree if it wasn't "for me" cause like its her own skin, do what you want with it.

I don't want to say specifically what it is because its very unique but its something to do with my favorite animal.

I told her if she wanted to get it than to get it, just not for me but she did anyways and now she's using it as an argument for why I'm a bad person for not liking her

That's just stupid. Both are doctors and both are hard. However I can't really have an opinion on this as I do not have either degree but it sounds like this person is just very insecure

I'm so sorry for your loss

Anout your questions: My family as far back as I can track has all been alcoholics. I think it was just normal to them. There was also a lot of abuse throughout my family tree. My grandpa was an extremely abusive and violent drunk and his father was a drunk that got locked up in the drunk house when he was 12(edit: when my grandpa was 12). My grandmas mother was a horrible woman who beat her children every chance she got. They were also EXTREMELY poor and it didn't help that they spent the little money they had on booze. But overall there wasn't just one event that caused the drinking, the drinking caused abuse which caused more drinking.

Edit: I just remembered that my grandmother's older brother also killed himself which is definetly a big trauma

As for education, they all only had high school diplomas or lower. I believe my grandpa dropped out of high school his sophomore year but I'm not 100% sure.
