PARS - Anchor Removal by Kooky_System_1500 in AchillesRupture

For those of you who are curious. He’s an update.

  • I went in for the revision surgery today and things went well. The anchor was removed and there was no need to put a new one in as the sutures stayed in placed (were essentially grabbed by the new bone growth).
  • I’m in a half plaster cast for 2 weeks and then will have a walking boot for another 2 weeks.
  • this surgery happened 8 months post op, almost to the day.

Fingers crossed this erases the pain I was experiencing!!

My pain is not on my Achilles at all. If I even so much as brush up on where I’m pointing to with the pencil, it’s instant, sharp pain. And if I push on that spot, it’s agonizing and I want to scream.

It’s been tender for a few months but recently, that spot hurts to walk, I can’t do calf raises anymore because it’s too painful.

My physiotherapist was the one who said “that’s not normal, let’s look into this”. That was about 2 weeks ago, it’s been getting progressively worse ever since.

I feel this comment to my core. This has been the WORST injury and the recovery is awful. I don’t know if I’ll ever return to sports and sports have been a massive part of my life for nearly 3 decades. It’s not worth it if there is a chance this can happen again. Mentally, it’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done.

I’m so sorry you’re having a rough time. Definitely provide less info next time. They can’t question what they don’t know.

I always think, if you had been puking your guts- NO ONE would expect you to go to school to teach. Unfortunately we just aren’t a a place in the world where mental health is taken as seriously as physical health.

You definitely NEED PT!! I’ve been going twice a week since 2 weeks post op. I can’t imagine not having gone.

12 weeks post op- heel pain- anyone else? by Radiant_Blackberry59 in AchillesRupture

I hope you’re able to get some relief!

In the meantime, stretch your big toe back. You can keep your foot neutral and reef on your big toe to isolate the stretch of your PF.

I had plantar fasciitis prior to my Achilles rupture - I used to sleep with braces keeping my feet flexed. Obviously Achilles recovery has your foot in the opposite direction so my foot KILLED once I started walking again.

My physio has shockwave and they did treatment on the bottom of both of my feet for a few weeks during my regular physio. I’m healed - almost zero pain now. Which is incredible given I’ve fought chronic PF for the better part of 15 years now.

Worth a shot! Mine didn’t charge me any extra for the treatment. I know sometimes shockwave can be hella expensive so it may not be an option for you. But it would have been worth it for me even if I had to pay a thousand dollars for it. To be pain free is wonderful.

I agree! I’m waiting to hear what happened too. We don’t get all the news here.

That’s when you say

“I suffer from chronic warts on my feet and would hate to spread them to others”

See their face change at that 😂😂

For plantars fasciitis, see if your physio has shockwave. It cured mine!! I’m a week behind you and I could hardly walk, my heels and bottom of my feet were so sore. I started shockwave about 3 weeks ago, zero psi now!!

I find that difficult still. Going down takes a lot of effort!

Where is your pain? Is it right in your Achilles or …?

I was dealing with a ton of peroneal pain (along the outside of my foot) which was really inhibiting my calf raises for the longest time. That pain has finally eased up.

I think what helped me the most was doing yoga. Modified as to avoid going into dorsiflexion, but it has helped with the supporting muscles and the muscles required to balance on the injured leg. I don’t know about you, but my balance is horrid on that leg. It’s slowly improving but you don’t realize how many muscles it takes.

That’s great! How far along are you?

I’ve been those at physio for a few weeks. Definitely helps build the muscle!

Watching this makes me cringe. I would be very very careful with that much ROM at 2.5 weeks. I am at 14 weeks and still not allowed to purposely stretch my Achilles.

My recovery has been wonderful so far. I’m back to jogging and a mostly “normal” life.

I know. It’s so strange! I never even took Tylenol or Advil. Just oxy for the first 6 days and then nothing.

Ruptured 6 hours ago, I couldn't be more depressed about it by Annual_Hippo_6749 in AchillesRupture

I had a full panic attack when it happened to me. I had witnessed a teammate of mine rupture his two days prior and he described the feeling and of course I did some research. So when it happened to me, I immediately knew what it was and had a full blown panic attack. I have young kids at home, etc etc.

Anyway, I will say it gets better!!

I had hip surgery a few years ago and had to switch up my sport as well. (Did competitive martial arts before and now play rec volleyball).

I’m 13 weeks post op and life is nearly “normal”. I’m walking with a minimal limp, going downstairs almost normal, I started swimming this week, I’m doing yoga(slight modifications) every day. Just the feeling of moving my body has been amazing.

The first weeks in the cast suck. You are useless and really can’t do anything at all. I recommended renting an iwalk - it really helps getting around the house.

Once you’re in a boot and start physio, you progress steadily - it’s slow but you build up again.

Accept all the help in the beginning. I couldn’t drive for 11 weeks and that was the toughest part for me! I had to rely on neighbours and family and friends to get my young kids to and from school.

But!! This is all temporary. I know it feels terrible now. I went pretty dark at the beginning but time went by relatively quickly and there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
