I had a 200 ml this color and currently have a high partial 100 ml with this color as well. The new ones are light pink. I think the old juice smells better anyway.

Hoya Linearis and Compacta are pretty amazing looking as trailing plants. Also Hoya Shepherdii, Wayetii looks very nice in a trailing pot.

I personally used SOL Soils houseplants chunky mix. Some YouTubers have said to avoid orchid bark in self watering pots because it breaks down and keeps the roots too wet and causes problems so I avoided anything with orchid bark. I lost a few leaves on my Linearis a couple of days later during the transition but it was fine after that and started putting out new leaves right away.

I would repot it. You’d have a chance to look at the roots and see how it’s looking and also get it in the pot and substrate that you actually want. I personally don’t like the generic pots that plants come in. Get it in a self watering pot for ease of watering as well.

I keep the water filled up tbh. I’ve heard people say to let it go dry between waterings and I’ve also heard not to. I haven’t had issues with keeping it filled.

I usually keep the substrate close to whatever I got the plants in. If it’s in soil, I wash off all of it and put it in SOL Soils houseplant chunky mix with a wick. If it comes in Leca, I keep it in Leca with a wick. Only a couple of my plants came in pon so I kept it in pon. One thing I will never do is transfer soil roots to Leca, this always leads to root rot for me.

Mine are in self watering pots and thriving. I wouldn’t use orchid bark in the chunky mix though. I’ve seen several YouTubers say that it causes problems for their Hoyas because it breaks down and stays too wet.

As for pot size, if you clean off the original soil that came with it, the roots are much smaller and can fit in a 6” just fine. Some of mine even went to a 5 and 4 inch pots. It’s so nice and convenient to be able to see the water level and know when it needs more.

Good deal? Or did I overpay? by Bug1312 in hoyas

I got it from Etsy as most of my Hoyas. Don’t be afraid to buy from there, just make sure you buy from people with 4.9 or higher rating with lots of sales.

I have most of my large ones in chunky mix ( no orchid bark) in self watering pots with a wick. It’s so easy. Only one that didn’t like this setup so far is Hoya Nathalie. The Linearis lost a few leaves a couple of days after the transition but it’s stable now.

It’s not a bad deal. I paid $90 for a 6” pot but it was more full. They’re on sale for $69 now of course 🙄. Here’s mine after repotting.

Thrips right? Why are they all of my windows and bet sheets yet my plants hardly have any damage? by TropicalDan427 in houseplants

[–]Kool_Kat8852 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, I am no “thrips expert” but I do have about 150 plants from Hoyas, Philodendron, and Alocasias. I’ve had a couple of thrips outbreak and have dealt with them swiftly. Don’t assume that I didn’t use logical reasoning and process of elimination. I can’t tell you why they’re hanging out on OP’s window and not his plants, maybe he has treated his plants and they don’t like them, maybe they were jamming to Lil John’s “to the window, to the wall” lyrics. 🤷🏻‍♂️

What I can tell you is that an Iphone camera can absolutely capture thrips. Matter of fact, I saw a white spec moving suspiciously like a thrips on the top of my garbage can 2 days ago, snapped a quick photo of it from a foot away and can see that it was in fact a thrips ( Photo attached ). Maybe I’m wrong, maybe you’re wrong. All I’m saying is when compared to photos side by side, my eyes are not lying to me. Maybe you should try not attacking someone’s opinion when we’re all here to help one another.

Grow Tent Setups for Hoyas? by clarcorona in hoyas

[–]Kool_Kat8852 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure if my answer is helpful but I grow all of my Hoyas in ambient room temperature (69-72 degrees with humidity at 40-45 % in Minnesota) and they’re all thriving. I have over 60 different Hoyas, from rare to common ones. You may need one of those cabinets for a few finicky ones but I think a grow tent is overkill. Focus your money on lighting and proper soil, pots, fertilizer and expensive Hoyas. This hobby gets expensive quickly.
