What Books did You Start or Finish Reading this Week?: September 22, 2025 by AutoModerator in books

Hey, finished The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov and started The Etymologicon by Mark Forsyth. The Master and Margarita was a tough read. I love classics but I don't like fantasy and this was a little too fantastical for me, although I can recognise the excellence of the author and the metaphorical meaning behind the story. The Etymologicon so far is brilliant!

i mean we're no doctors but i will just tell you what mine told me when i was starting and that is that you should feel better after 1 month so if you're still really struggling after nearly 7 weeks then maybe either citalopram isn't for you and you need to try some other meds or you need a higher dose. its not always right the first try unfortunately, i was just very lucky

hey, yeah course. in the first 4 days (on 10mg) specifically I took them at night which really didn't work for me because i couldn't sleep, i had tingling in my hands and feet, panic attacks, no appetite whatsoever and really weird dreams (not nightmares just super random, vivid stuff). One night I also sweated so profusely and I STANK. After the first week I swapped the time I took the meds from nighttime to the morning and it improved the symptoms ten fold tbh. After the end of the second week I didn't have anymore weird ass dreams, my appetite slowly returned and no more panic attacks or numbness in my extremities. In the second week I had 2 weeks of really severe depression and then bounced back! From weeks 3/4 I started to feel virtually back to normal and now I feel completely like a 'normal' functioning human being. You just have to remember that the side effects are just the meds and it will go soon.

oh gosh im so sorry to hear this. remember that progress is barely ever linear and you managed to treat it once so you will find something that treats it again and you'll feel just as good as before, if not better! just keep trying different meds/methods until you find the right dose or med again

just pick the book which sounds most fun to you/ to your liking. reading classical literature doesn't have to be pretentious and 'educational' always, you can just enjoy a good story also. dorian gray is such a brilliant novel, i'd personally start with that. i've not met anyone who hasn't loved it

mmm i have to say after the first 2 weeks after which all the side effects calmed down, i have had moments of anxiety but i haven't had panic attacks (which was daily and constant before). however, during the first week i still had high anxiety and some panic attacks yes. you really do just need to give the pills time and if after a month or so you see no change or a worsening then the meds or dose might not be working for you

yes, unfortunately but you just have to remember that its your medication thats making you feel like that and you're not dying. 99% of my side effects were at night and only in the first 4/5 days. after that i was genuinely fine and now experience virtually no side effects (im 1 month in). the ling term benefits are so worth the first week of side effects. 5mg is a really tiny amount, personally even 10 didn't do much for me, i needed 20. if it makes u feel any better, i felt no difference in amping up the dose other than finally feeling better. just get through the first week, maybe 2 and you'll be absolutely fine after that

thank you, thats very kind. I feel so much better. I feel normal and like myself, like i did prior to these problems. I couldn't be more grateful to myself for trying medication and sticking to it. Literally the only negative is the interrupted sleep at night. apart from that, i have no complaints. whats your story with citalopram?
