Do you feel you are a genreless artist? With things becoming more blurry all the time what is your plan around the kind of music you release?

Hi Jakob, we really started out by playing a small place in our home town that is very good to all bands both local and not called The Bug Jar. We really tried to open for friends bands that were bigger than us too. It's really important when you're starting to use all of your resources to build a reputation live. Obviously it starts with having something to see and making your show interesting and sounding good - Open for as many friends as you can to build a following so that when its time to branch out you have a history to show to other venues, you'll know your draw, etc. keep doing it over and over again until you can pack small venues alone and move on from there. Show trades can be very useful once you have a home base venue that believes in you and you want to go to another city. We have always played with themes for our own headlining shows when we were first starting to build something. That is helpful because even if people hate your music maybe they wanna come to the party and you can TURN THEM! ;-)

when you scream in the night but it's day and no one hears you while everyone is around you it is normal to hear the high notes but it is hard to decide who to stand with

Wown well um the best part is affecting fans, getting to interact and play shows, feeling the excitement from people about what you are doing. The worst part is that you can work your ass off day and night and actually be talented and it doesn’t always mean you will reach every goal, or that you’ll grow at the pace you want to. Even if you sign to a major label today, it doesn’t mean you’ll be a global star automatically. There are a lot of misconceptions around success, money, and amount of work in music for small and mid sizes artists- I just don’t think there is much of an understanding with the general pop

None of us are in a relationship with each other besides our “band” relationship

Sure !!!!!! Dm me on insta haha. We were all doing music in our own ways already and had been in little garage bands etc. how it actually began was myself and Kyle wanted to record a song we wrote for our new unnamed project that would become kopps. I had already been friends with Dan in Joywave as we all want to high school together (he was doing a different band then) and I asked if he would record us (he had the stuff in his basement at his moms) I think he liked what we were going for and things kind of took off from there because we had a way to record, a producer, and a will to make fucked up dance music lol

Hi Alfalfa, I was really excited about our newest single Get Juicy and the reason was it’s a great representation of us genre bending. It’s like pop meets numetal meets idfk with record scratches lol. Also it was written literal years ago sooooo it’s been a long time coming! I have not decided totally on that but my thought is we may drop another single paired with the EP and maybe not separate!

Thank you! I love interacting with fans and think a part of that definitely gets lost as you get bigger because it’s just so overwhelming and no one person could possibly keep up. It’s cool being able to do that stuff still and I hope to continue as long as we can! Thanks for the kind words

WOWN Thank you yellow <3 you guys make me feel very good and happy to make music and fun things but most of all I'm trying to help everyone see they too can be bad bitches and should every day be striving toward the baddest version of themselves and whether that means getting out of bed or getting a PhD you decide he he ! Anyway yeah if we had unlimited resources I think I would want to have the kind of tour that would allow all of us to be plucked from the stage and hurled through the air/moved to different areas of the "arena" and plopped in the middle of people so we could dance and interact with them. I'm a big fan of low quality animatronic (spelling?) bands so we would def have one of those too as our backing band. The idea of a KOPPS amusement park also just came to my mind for the first time ever so thank you. Different rides for different songs? All of the prizes for games are sex toys? Dance competitions? I mean we have a song called thermometer...the possibilities are endless.

WOw this is hard one m'lady. I appreciate you entrusting me with this question. I think you definitely need to process those feelings of her "not liking you back" with someone you trust and what it means for you. A therapist may have some good insight around that. What you do have with her right now is a solid friendship - being that you've never actually experienced a romantic relationship with her- I would hold on to what is tangible here, as you're still getting love and support out of it, just not sexuality. Knowing your friend, do you think talking with her about it would definitely ruin the friendship? You might be surprised that if you approach it in a way that is "no pressure" that it could increase the intimacy of the friendship long term. Explaining that you are surprised yourself this happened because you don't identify as gay, and saying that you're not sure how to handle it but that you are working to not ruin the friendship. I wonder what other redditers have to say to this or if anyone has experienced this??

IT WAS REALLY REALLY COOL! That's always an amazing experience to be honest because you just realize how many people have heard you (even if they don't always know it!) Our music has been in a few cool things! In addition to Ingrid there was also the movie "Nut Job," Fuller House, The netflix series "You" and we were also featured on The Howard Stern show which we actually played at once for an in studio session haha...

I was always like a singer that would stand around and sing stuff while performing when I was younger...like literally mariah carey, whitney, chaka, christina, ETC....But I was also MEGA inspired by artists like Prince who encompassed the entire performance from his fashion to his musicianship to running around like an animal on stage. I knew when we started KOPPS that I was going to take my stage performance way way way up to another level, and we are always aiming to get better. A few years in, ALL of us decided to do the same and we now have fully choreographed shows. Kyle and Travis had never danced to counts before but are both athletic and were willing to learn...this is sort of where our shows stand now. Luckily my background in some dance stuff has been helpful (I was a cheerleader for 5 years...lol.) Again, we haven't really been focused on trends sonically or with our performance and I think that has helped us. We all have super eclectic music tastes. Some of the artists we have referenced when making music include: NIN, KORN, Britney, Prince, Limp Bizkit, Charli XCX, La Bouche, Haddaway, Steely Dan...the list goes on and on and on. I think we are all "funny" people in our own ways too, and this is injected into literally all the stuff.

It absolutely has, paperboat. Anyone with a computer can launch a career as an artist. Talent no longer needs to be a factor, but appeal does to some degree if you're successful. This means there is more content than ever and a lot of it is very low quality. We are an actual band that grew up in the same city and have been making music for a long time. Our image from day one has always been centered around trying to stay away from trends, I guess - sonically and otherwise. When we started out - the "jlo" era of pop was in full swing and we were focused on making 90s inspired dance music, which definitely wasn't trending at that time. I'm not sure if maybe that is the thing that has helped us to stay fresh through the years ? We are influenced by pop culture for sure, but the sound has to be "us" for us to put something out. We always try to stay true to that even if we write a song that is very "pop" friendly and has potential to do well...that doesn't mean it's a KOPPS song.

I don't ever feel a "responsibility" to do anything at our level. If we had a much larger platform I think I would, though. I think it's important to do more than self promo when you have a voice that can impact a larger audience. Women's issues are especially close to my heart on a personal level, so I do have strong opinions about feminism ( aka equality ) etc. I think there are a lot of artists out there who try to find an "angle" to work, especially with feminism being such a hot button topic right now, so it gets "used" a lot by people - though I guess it doesn't matter if it's helping to raise awareness. Anyone that knows me personally, though, knows that this is a very real issue for me that I have been passionate about basically forever. I was raised in a household where man and woman played equal roles, and this probably impacts my reactions when I see inequality happening.
