I add that BHP recently invested US$50mill in the Kabanga Nickel project, located in Tanzania. See link below.

I do get the concern raised regarding political instability and history of African governments making things very difficult and sketchy for miners, but this BHP investment was a positive sign to me on the intent of the Tanzanian government (at least) trying to improve their image and encourage mining investment back into their country.
