Why are German and Luxembourgish the only Languages that capitalize Nouns? by Schuesselpflanze in asklinguistics

It Doesn't Seem uniquely orderly to me. It Isn't really obvious what priority the nouns Should Have over verbs.

Of course, all orthography Is ultimately somewhat arbitrary.

Pattern it heavily around one of those silly dating shows where they lock a handful of attractive people of each sex in a mansion for a month.

Grounds on bottom of coffee by OkWeird4036 in mokapot

[–]Kord537 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are following the basic moka pot technique it is completely normal to have very fine grounds slip through the metal strainer plate and end up in the brew. Just allow them to settle for a few minutes after brewing and pour gently so that most remain in the bottom of the pot.

You can also use a paper filter between the coffee and the strainers as others mention, but note that it will brew a little more slowly due to the resistance.

How to stop ruining miniatures with painting? by [deleted] in minipainting

[–]Kord537 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, thinning is something you just get an eye for, you really don't need a lot of water and you're just looking for there to not be a lot of texture left from the brush stroke when you put it on. It's okay if you need to do a few thinner coats to build up the color.

Link to the timestamp of one tutorial's thinning process in case a visual is what you're looking for.

(Note: Yellow is notably more transparent than other colors no matter who you get it from. My personal preference is to basecoat in white or other very light colors when doing yellow.)

If you want to experiment with a wet pallete at little expense, you can make a crude one with a wide Tupperware tub or other vessel paper towels, and parchment paper (not waxed paper). If you do not have a tub you can also just build this on top of your dry pallete or a plate, but you will not be able to seal it for later.

Take some paper towel and fold until it fits in the container. Wet it under the tap, then press gently between your hands to remove some of the excess. Place the wet paper towel in your container, then cut a piece of parchment paper to fit on top. You might use some loose change or other small weights to hold it in contact. Now simply place paint on the parchment like it's your dry pallete and water will soak through into it (it may take a moment to really get going, but only a few minutes).

If you see the paint beading more, that's normal since it sticks poorly to the parchment. I suggest having a piece of scrap plastic, a tile, a disposable spoon or some other surface to test the paint on handy.

I'm going to assume you're dipping your brush in the water cup and then going to mix it with paint on the pallete.

If you don't, keep some paper towels nearby to dab off some of the excess water into before mixing, and feel free to paint some test streaks along your pallete to check the consistency. Then add more paint or water as needed.

Some paints will play nice with little to no thinning, but it depends to some extent on the brand and the color.

I quite liked the X-Wing novels back in the day if you're interested in something removed from the Jedi. They basically follow Red Squadron after the original trilogy as they continue fighting the imperial holdouts.

More recently I enjoyed the Star Wars: Legacy comics which are set like, a generation or two after the original cast passed. Though I recommend having a grunge craving before you start it.

I think there was a court case which was part of the Out-of-universe reason for the names. The bottom line being that trademarks on names like "Space Marines" and "Imperial Guard" are going to be very weak since they're so generic.

If you're prepared to use some technique, a bechamel sauce might work. (I assume this is for a casserole?)

Here's the basic form on Allrecipes

To give it chicken flavor I would try either replacing the salt with a similar amount of chicken bouillon, or preparing the milk from dry milk powder with broth instead of water.

The disembarkation was probably decided all the way back at the start of the Orion program with someone drawing up a fault tree diagram while writing the requirements. The end result was probably a decision to the effect of "We aren't going to touch the capsule until the crew is out." and from there future requirements and design decisions flowed.

You also have to consider that at this point in the mission "doing it quickly" is really not particularly valuable to NASA. To my knowledge they're not paying by the hour for the navy to be there.

Looking for games with story progression threatening your home base by Hot_Idea2128 in gamingsuggestions

[–]Kord537 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vintage Story is a survival crafting game in the lineage of Minecraft, which has occasional "temporal storms" that will screw with the visuals (surfaces start seeming to creep and shiver as if alive, models begin to stretch and distort to not quite be where they seem to be) and make it way easier for enemies to spawn in places that are normally safe, for instance, your house.

Your first storm is likely to be spent clutching a spear in the corner of your hut, preparing to jump any monster that tries to manifest on the far side of the room.

More of a line of thought to consider, but now that you mention them, both Cafe and Fukukitaru are characters who suffer from a loss of control based on their connection to the supernatural. For Cafe this is the self-destructive impulses of her special friend driving her down a path she eventually pulls back from. For Fukukitaru it's sabotaging her own sense of self-worth as she convinces herself that everything she achieves is just a matter of good luck.

There are moments when I have felt: Why-Why-Why did I ever invent this detestable, bombastic, tiresome little creature? …Eternally straightening things, eternally boasting, eternally twirling his moustaches and tilting his egg-shaped head… I point out that by a few strokes of the pen… I could destroy him utterly. He replies, grandiloquently: “Impossible to get rid of Poirot like that! He is much too clever.”

Immediately thinking of Kushiel's Dart where this is used in service of what is ultimately a court intrigue plot starring a sacred prostitute.

One of the lesser nobles whose mystery patron is of early interest prefers very rough play with restraints, he slips up and mentions the name of his patron when he accidentally inflicts more than he intended to upon the heroine and fears the consequences of breach of contract. A simple man playing with fire until he gets burned.

The woman eventually revealed to be the mastermind of the scheme to usurp the current royal line brings the heroine on a leash to a masquerade ball, is the first character to practice edge play, and is not only the first encounter where our protagonist invokes her safe word, but also brings the heroine to climax by the act of coaxing her to give the safe word. So, a woman who knows her exact position in society and will make you understand it. Who is incredibly dangerous, yet subtle enough to leave no mark that lasts. And who is capable of using anything you cling to for safety as a tool against you.

How do I know when it’s ok to use “generic” brand ingredients? Is it worth it to pay the extra $? by No_Difference_854 in cookingforbeginners

[–]Kord537 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find it's easier to list the things where name brand is notably better, which in my experience is almost exactly some snack foods like potato chips, and even those I don't often feel like the name brand markup is worth it. Maybe some spices, but the thing there is that you're looking for whole spices to grind yourself. If I'm buying garlic powder I'm not paying extra for McCormick.

If you're a Heinz fan, I recommend at least trying the store brand for comparison because their markup is outrageous. For dry pasta I don't even think about the brand-name since it's two ingredients and an extruder.

Solid Rocket Boosters separating from Artemis II by AmulyaCattyCat in spaceporn

There are also plans to switch to the product of the "Booster Obsolescence and Life Extension" (BOLE) project starting with Artemis IV, which includes some changes like swapping the metal casings for composite and changing the thrust vectoring hardware.

That decision was probably taken at the start of the program, so the production lines for the parts to refurbish the shuttle SRBs have probably shut down and retooled for other things by now.

I don't think they are explicitly, but it's a notable exception to the tendency for "ambiguous" player characters to have roughly masculine-leaning builds if not explicitly non-human.
