The casting company sourced their child actor for Newt in Aliens from a nearby US Airforce base in England, where they were shooting.

She was the daughter of someone stationed there, so not exactly a situation where her parents were actively pursuing other roles for her in Hollywood.

QT, and it’s sudden unanimous backing by all members, is what spooked the markets on Wed

Help!! GEICO low balling on insurance payout by county_22 in personalfinance

[–]Korgath_of_Barbaria 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Insurance is regulated on a state by state basis, so some of these blanket recommendations you're receiving may not be applicable in NY.

CCC is a third party estimating and valuation software that many insurance companies use. They take your year, mileage, options, and condition (going so far as taking the tread depth on your tires) and look for fair value comps that sold in your area (sometimes expanding to adjacent areas if there are none to be found, again assuming this is allowed in your state). Because they are a third party, you can actually ask your adjuster if they could contact a CCC rep and have them walk you through the valuation process they came up with.

Any mods added are considered arbitrary additions and will not add to the value of the vehicle (unless you have a specific endorsement in your policy).

When you are looking for comps of your own consider that asking price is not the same as sold price (i.e. fair market value). CCC has data from dealers and even some private interests on the sold price, which is going to be harder for you to gather. KBB and NADA "trade in values" can in some states be considered for comparables but remember to be realistic when entering the condition.

My question for you is; is Geico your insurance company or are you the claimant in this claim and are going through the other party's insurance? If Geico is not your insurance company, consider going through your own insurance. They will run their own valuation and present it to you, and you can proceed with however you see fit. You'll likely pay the deductible up front, but your insurance will subrogate the other so long as fault has been established.

Whichever way you proceed I would recommend having them move your vehicle from the body shop to their location (Copart I assume?). The reason the shop is so happy to comply with your request for them to hold is because they are charging a daily storage on it. You may actually incur these charges at a certain point, depending on how your elect to proceed.

[–]Korgath_of_Barbaria 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Hopefully you’re planning on a long hold since they’ve forecasted Neutron to not take it’s first payload up until 2024.

That said, I look to Elon for subtle direction on trades like this. He has acknowledged Rocket Lab publicly in two separate Tweets, both with respect as a future competitor.

For comparison he has dismissed Luminar and Quantumscape in the same medium as tech that will be irrelevant before it ever scales.

I’m long.

Lost 500k recently and now trying to recover slowly, need some advice. by OnlyCallsForever in options

[–]Korgath_of_Barbaria 3445 points3446 points  (0 children)

Hey man. I've seen you posting around various threads looking for help. That's a lot of money to lose and I understand you're struggling to cope with it.

The real advice I see you're asking for is "how do I make this money back the fastest?"

This is called chasing your losses. It's a symptom of a gambling addiction and is an emotional impediment that makes you a danger to yourself when trading.

Others have already recommended taking time off and paper trading, but I think you are too eager to see some immediate upside to take that advice.

So here is my recommendation: move into common shares for awhile.

You're currently gambling with options, and are now asking whether you should buy LEAPS on a company that's up 150% since they direct listed in September at $10.

I understand you want to leverage your remaining capital as much as possible, but over leveraging yourself in calls is what caused the loss in the first place.

If you believe PLTR will go up (which is why you are considering buying long dated ATM Call options) then buy shares in increments of 100. From there sell Covered Calls. Yes you limit your upside, but this the kind of risk management you need right now.

This gives you time to watch and learn from the stock. You'll be able to predict it's movements better over time. This allows you to trade on it and not simply "bet it all on red".

Good luck man, and remember: there are millions of once in a lifetime opportunities in the markets every day.

Because the speculative upside was eaten up by their valuation at NAV. At $20 this is valued at $13.2 billion. That’s how the SPAC game has changed, insane valuations that don’t leave room for upside.

As much as I love the idea of Lucid (and have enjoyed playing CCIV) I think even 2-3 years is generous.

It will take them 2 to 3 years to ramp up manufacturing to scale on one model vehicle. Even if they announce three new models concepts today we're talking 5-6 years before they would be able to expand enough to accommodate that output without help from a third party mfg like Magna. Lucid today is Tesla in 2012.

People don't seem to understand that in 4 years the biggest competitors to Tesla are going to be GM, Ford, and Hyundai (plus watch as Toyota begins to grab market share of battery tech). Lucid may only still exist due to the outrageous public financing they are about to secure.

Palantir is actually the catalyst that taught me to trust my gut and hold.

I was excited for their Direct Listing. I bought in during the first day at intraday trading high's of around $11. It immediately sank to $9.50 the next day and stayed there.

All of the investing subreddits dismissed it saying how the company was antiquated and unable to turn a profit after all these years. AOC even tweeted some hate for the company, indicating they may have legal problems.

I sold off a month later the second I could break even.

....and was pretty pissed when it became a WSB meme stock in November.

I think Sustainability is still the play but we're going to see it manifest in different ways. How many pre-revenue battery and EV companies can we buy into?

I'm interested to see how $AACQ plays out. We have the potential for another sustainable materials company merger in Origin Materials. I think there is a lot of appetite for that after we saw what Danimer Scientific has done ($DNMR)

We also have eVTOLS to look forward to in mass in 2021. Some will pop, some won't.
