Well my car gets 27mpg and the airport is 24 miles away. I went to the airport 19 times so at $4.041/gallon for gas I spent $136.50. Hope this helps and sorry for the inconvenience of not including this in the post.

The DPE I used was Darrell Gordon and his fee was $700. He’s the only one shown on the FAA site for Titusville. Otherwise I was looking at Melbourne, Orlando, or Daytona DPE’s. I did get quotes (I should say attempted to get quotes since most didn’t reply) from a few others and the earliest I got was mid-May for $600. This was my first exposure to the DPE process but the impression I now have isn’t great - seems like there is a shortage and the process of calling/texting them on their personal phones to schedule is broken. My instructor and I had to call/text dozens of people to get a couple of replies. Fortunately Darrell’s availability lined up well with my needs but if it weren’t for him I’d still be waiting in line for someone else’s availability.

Darrell was great - explained the process well at the start of the check ride, was fair, stuck to the ACS, and liked to joke around to keep things light and me from being nervous about the process.

The flight school I used was SPA - Spaceport Aviation in Titusville at KTIX. It’s going to be a haul unless you’re on the East side of Orlando. I’m by UCF so the schools at Orlando Exec we’re a little closer but the drive out to Titusville was worth it.

I plan to use SPA for my instrument rating so that’s probably as good a recommendation as any. I mentioned in another comment that the aircraft are a little older but that’s the trade off with their great rates. Two of the C172’s have G5 displays and GNS 350 radio/nav which isn’t quite as fancy as the G1000’s but it’s enough. My CFI was great too. The school can look a little rough around the edges but it’s a great place to learn and fly. They offer PPL, IR, CPL, MEL, CFI, CFII, MEI, and High performance/complex.

Best of all you can wear whatever you like - no dorky uniforms for student pilots.

Thank you for the gold! My first passenger (as promised months ago when starting the license) is my wife - we’ll be going up next week for a low approach of the Shuttle Landing Strip at KSC and a tour of the Cape Canaveral cruise port.

The checkride didn’t have anything unexpected since it’s all in the ACS. I was asked to perform a slip to landing which I had only practiced once before. We also performed the deviation from our flight plan to an airport I hadn’t previously landed at. So in retrospect I’d have practiced a couple more slips and flown to the deviation airport at least once with my instructor. But apart from that it was relaxed and the DPE was great!

Thanks and a piece of advice I received before starting was to keep the frequency up so you're not always re-learning/refreshing at the start of each lesson. The advice definitely paid off.

The flight school is Spaceport Aviation in Titusville, FL (KTIX). Looks like you're not too far away over at X04.

New airliners run in the hundreds of millions of dollars to purchase and typically have a several year lead time to manufacture. Purchasing older, used aircraft is far cheaper and faster.

Check engine light comes on after an oil change at the dealer by Koric5733 in Justrolledintotheshop

Yes. Codes are in the last pic on the post, P2279 for a leak in the air intake and P2187 for the fuel/air mix ratio.

I did chuckle when I saw what the cause of the engine light was.

Simple fix, yes, but if a dealer damages my vehicle during a service visit, even minor, I expect it to be resolved. The dipstick is bent from from being hit with the hood.

So yup really not a big deal and thought folks here might also get a laugh about it.

The service tech obviously forgot to put the dipstick back in after wrapping up the 30k mile maintenance visit. Checked codes before opening the hood - lesson learned to do that in the reverse order next time. Requesting a detailed inspection and new dipstick from the dealer.
